EDITOR: Cecilia Duvalle and Mary Trepanier PUBLISHER: CWTCH Press DEADLINE: May 30, 2018 Release Date: October 15, 2018 WORD COUNT: 2500 - 7000 PAYMENT: $75, one print copy to US authors, e-book to all SUBMIT TO: [email protected] We are seeking erotic vampire tales that go beyond the one-handed read. Your work needs to entertain us in multiple ways--we want to flip those pages while squirming in our seat. Make us cringe, make us hot, make us want to finish your story! Ideally your story will contain some element of horror. Go dark. Go scary. Go deep. Give us a new take on vampires. Got a science fiction or fantasy piece? Send it our way. How about something historical? Yes, please. Make your story interesting and scorching hot--there must be explicit sex. Note: Do not start your tale with a thumping-loud bar or club scene. Actually, we never need to see another vampire in a club, ever again. If you use this tired trope, you better do it in a way that blows our minds. If you are unfamiliar with the series, please familiarize yourself with what we are looking for. Here's a link to the Amazon store for ease. Rights: We would like new material only for this anthology. If your story is accepted, Cwtch gains nonexclusive right to publish your story in this anthology in print, ebook, and audiobook form. Authors will retain copyright to their stories, but we ask you to not republish until after January 2020. Guidelines (please follow these closely): 1: Submit only 2500-7000 word stories that are previously unpublished and not being considered elsewhere. 2: Attach a Word .doc or .docx file ONLY...

Taking Submissions: Beyond the Infinite – Tales from the Outer Reaches
Taking Submissions: Beyond the Infinite – Tales from the Outer Reaches
Deadline: May 31st, 2018 Payment: $50AUD and a contributor's copy This will be the 5th anthology in the Things in the Well series, to be published in July 2018. Submissions Deadline: end of May Email: [email protected] when your story is complete, and as good as it can be! ~ Note By all means draw inspiration from them, but I'm not looking Alien/Predator fan-fiction, or rehashes of old sci-fi classics (I'm looking at you, Asimov-fans...) I want stories that are outstanding, different, and memorable! I want something new and exciting! New psychological terrors involving time travel; primal fears triggered by something new that threatens humanity, and new hopes that we may conquer them; new creatures that will make people want to go out and buy the Halloween mask; and new stories of the weird in the outer-reaches of time and space. If you need more ideas, take a look outside the typical Sci-Fi genre... Read Clive Barker’s short story ‘The Skins of the Fathers’ or HPL’s ‘The Colour out of space,’ or go back further and look wider to William Hope Hodgson’s ‘The House on the Borderland,’ or Brian Lumley’s ‘The House of Doors’ and ‘Necroscope’ series. So, something memorable, dark, and/or something that offers hope and/or despair for humanity… I envision the SciFi element as merely the stage for the story to unfold, cracking our world(s) open to reveal a truer story beyond the genre’s superfice. Gee, that sounds pompous, but you get my (space) drift. I anticipate a (star)fleet of top-notch submissions as usual, so I'm after memorable stories, a sense of dread, and some level of believability and internal consistency would be more important than a lengthy treatise or a quick shudder. And yes, alien viruses, space pirates and cosmic encounters can be believable if written well. -Steve Dillon Stop! Before putting fingers on keyboards (or...

We are looking for fiction, poetry, and essays within the theme of the magazine’s upcoming issue (game, see below). Writers published will be paid $20-$75 according to the category and length of their submission. We would be hard-pressed to include submissions with a length exceeding 5500 words. Taking Submissions: Humanagerie
Taking Submissions: Humanagerie
Deadline: May 31st 2018 Payment: £10 per story and £5 per poem. Eibonvale Press will be open for submissions for a new anthology edited by Allen Ashley and Sarah Doyle. “Humanagerie” will showcase both poetry and short fiction on the theme of animals. The book will not be about animals as such, but will instead be inspired by the characteristics that animals possess, and the points at which these intersect with – and manifest in – humanity. It will also be based on the strange and beautiful adjectives used to describe such traits, such as: Aquiline – eagle Chelonian – tortoise or turtle Leporine – hare Ostracine – oyster Pieridine / Pierine – butterfly Vespine – wasp / hornet and many many more. You will find a much larger list in the guidelines. We are interested in shifting states, in scenarios that explore duality, hybridity, and liminality. We are asking writers to consider how animalistic attributes might manifest in the human psyche – or vice versa. We want hints of scales, tails, fur and fins… gills, claws, paws and spines… glimpses of horns, tusks, teeth and tongues… stalking, slinking, slithering and stomping… roars, whimpers, howls and song. We want breath, heat, musk. We want landscapes ranging from urban wastelands to frozen tundra, from bedsits to coastlines, from suburbia to savannah – and the imagined worlds between. We want water and we want fish out of water. We want the visceral and the vulnerable, the slippery and the synaesthetic, emergence and extinction. The submissions window will run from March 1st until May 31st 2018. The word limits are up to 60 lines for poetry and 4,000 words for fiction. Download the guidelines here. Via: Eibonvale Press.

Taking Submissions: Brewed Awakenings Volume 4
Taking Submissions: Brewed Awakenings Volume 4
Deadline: May 31st, 2018 Payment: $50 and a contributor's copy Anthologies are a great way to get your stories noticed. Caffeinated Press sponsors an annual house anthology titled “Brewed Awakenings,” with a new volume released every autumn. The first volume, released on March 2, 2015, contains the work of eight invited authors from West Michigan who penned stories under the loose theme of “all goes dark.” The second volume shipped in September 2016; subsequent volumes will follow each October. The anthology ships in print format (vol. 1); print and ebook (vol. 2); print, ebook and audio book (vol. 3 and subsequent). We are currently in the reading window for vol. 4. The window closes 5/31/18. We recommend that you read the Q&A that follows, then visit our Query page to read our formal house editorial guidelines. The submission form for proposed Brewed Awakenings content is at the bottom of the Query page. It will be to your advantage to read both of these documents in their entirety before you consider whether you should submit to us. Q&A When can I submit stories? What’s the deadline? We accept stories year-round. The cutoff for each autumn’s volume is May 31. Submit before then, you’re in consideration for that year’s copy; submit after that, and you’re in the pile for the following year. You obtain neither benefit nor disability from submitting well in advance of the cutoff, but technical errors in the submission are more likely to be redirected to you for correction (instead of resulting in your manuscript being summarily excluded) if we have time to spot-check it before May 31. How much does it cost to submit? Nothing, silly. Reading fees are The Devil. Never, ever accept the premise that you must fork over some greenbacks to get a fair review of your manuscript. Who can submit? Anyone who is authorized to work in...

Taking Submissions: Changelings & Fairy Rings: An Anthology of Nature Spirits & Elemental Creatures
Deadline: June 1st, 2018 Payment: £3.50 (UK) / $5.00 (US) At Three Drops Press, we’ve always enjoyed when a bit of pixie fiction or a gnome poem lands in the submissions inbox, so a themed anthology in honour of the Good Folk was inevitable. And the time has come to throw open the doors to Fairyland and ask for your best work on nature spirits and elemental creatures of all kinds – and there really is no shortage of these beings in myth, folklore, and literature around the world and down the centuries. Submissions will close on 1 June 2018, and the tiny-sized anthology will be published as near to the Summer Solstice (northern hemisphere – 21 June 2018) as possible. Please read the guidelines carefully, as this is a very special anthology: Poems should fit nicely on a page measuring 10.795 cm x 17.463cm with 1.25 cm margins all around. Yes that’s right: this one is a pocket-book. (We know some elves and fairies are human-sized, or bigger, but the editor has a weakness for tiny, cute things. It’s probably why she had so many babies.) Please submit 1-5 poems of 40 lines or under, or 1-3 micro-to-flash fictions of 500 words or less. Send the poems / stories in the body of the email or in a Word document – please NO PDFs – to [email protected] with the subject line ‘Fairy Rings – Genre – Your name’ e.g. mine would be ‘Fairy Rings – Poetry – Kate Garrett’ Previously published work is ok, but you must own the rights and let us know where it first appeared. Please NO simultaneous submissions. This call is open for 6 weeks and we will take no longer than 6 weeks at the absolute longest to respond (usually much faster). Thank you...

Taking Submissions: Dread: A Furry Horror Mag
Deadline: June 1st, 2018 Payment: $0.02 per word Deadline: June 1, 2018 Theme: Flash Fiction horror that feels real while containing anthropomorphic animals as characters Word Count: up to 1000 words Payment: $0.02 per word Editor: Weasel Dread is an online horror furry magazine that focuses on flash fiction (1000 words or less). We are seeking short scenes of dreadfully frightening stuff containing anthropomorphic animals (humanized animals). We’re trying to create something along the lines of a furry No Sleep (see Reddit No Sleep for example stories). Suspension of disbelief is key. The story will have to feel real. Although this is a horror magazine project, there are limits as to what we can actually take. Rule of thumb: If you can get away with it in an R-rated film, you’ll most likely be fine. Blood and gore, nudity, light sex are fine. Reprints are fine with us as long as you own the rights to your story. Simultaneous submissions are fine! If your story is accepted elsewhere, it is your responsibility to let us know. Weasel Press asks for Non-Exclusive rights to your story in perpetuity. Submissions are taken through Submittable. Use one submittable form to upload your story(stories if more). The form will take up to 3 DOC or DOCX documents. That means you’ll have to have all of your submission ready when you send it off. As this is an online only magazine, there will not be a print version of it. We will display a free PDF document of the project once completed. If you would like a kindle version, we will have one available for $0.99. Dread: A Furry Horror Mag Submit Via: Weasel Press. (Have to click through to submit.)

Taking Submissions: Ye Olde Magick Shoppe
Deadline: June 1st, 2018 Payment: $25 if Kickstarter fails, $100-$500 if it succeeds. Attention Authors! We are soliciting short stories by new and established authors in the fantasy genre, between 3,500 and 7,000 words in length. (Shorter or longer works will be considered in cases of exceptional merit.) The goal is to select at least ten entries for publication* in a short-story anthology, to be funded with a Kickstarter project. At least two entries will be selected from among those received before the Kickstarter goes live. Payment to the selected authors will depend on the success of the Kickstarter. If it funds, authors will receive a minimum of $100 each (max $500). If it fails, authors will receive $25 each, paid out of my pocket. (Sign up here if you want to know when the Kickstarter goes live, as well as other project milestones.) (Our first Call for Submissions, in the military-fiction genre, can be viewed here. The associated Kickstarter met its goal, resulting in the authors being paid $100 each; ultimately, the anthology was placed under contract by an independent publisher. While we can’t promise similar results this time, we are hopeful.) Taking Submissions: Tales From The Crust: : An Anthology of Pizza Horror
Taking Submissions: Tales From The Crust: : An Anthology of Pizza Horror
Deadline: June 1st, 2018 Payment: $0.03 per word Note: I almost didn't share this just so I'd have less competition for submitting in case I can write something in time. That's how much I love this call! You're all welcome that I'm not actually that selfish! We know we have a tendency to say, “Attention writers! Some new hotness!” but this is literally some new burn-the-roof-of-your-mouth hotness. Inspired mostly by David James Keaton’s struggle to find good pizza in California and pitching ideas to Max Booth when he’s hungry after working a 12-hour shift at the Overlook, get ready for… TALES FROM THE CRUST: An Anthology of Pizza Horror edited by Keaton and Booth and published by Perpetual Motion Machine Publishing. Originally Keaton was thinking of calling it PIZZA MY SKULL because there’s a pizza place around San Jose called Pizza My Heart, meaning “piece of my heart,” and so he thought a “piece of my skull” joke would be hilarious. Turns out that’s a lot of assumptions to make about a gag. Also their pizza is gross. Luckily, George Cotronis brainstormed a much better title (though it might make people wonder if there’s a “Crustkeeper/Cryptkeeper” hosting the show). Speaking of Mr. Cotronis! Holy lord look at the cover art he’s come up with. WE WANT TO LIVE IN THIS WORLD… This is exactly the vibe we’re going for here. Not so much the goofy Goosebumps thing you might imagine with a pizza horror story, but we’re taking it kind of seriously. Like we take our pizza seriously. The humor is inherent in the pizza theme already, so we’re playing this kind of straight. And if you think you’ve got what it takes, like a healthy love of the cheesy cuisine, send us your best work. Now, you may be...

Taking Submissions: The Working Zealot’s Guide to Gaining Capital in Pre-Apocalyptic America
Taking Submissions: The Working Zealot’s Guide to Gaining Capital in Pre-Apocalyptic America
Deadline: June 5th, 2018 Payment: 6 cents per word. Hello, I am FearBot3000. I was programmed to notice breathless confusion across social media. Confusion often follows the infallible decrees of Lord Commander Patagonia. Albeit infallible, sometimes his decrees require an algorithm to reach a state of clarity. The title of Cockroach Conservatory Vol. 1 is: The Working Zealot's Guide to Gaining Capital in Pre-Apocalyptic America What are we looking for? Weird stories about cults, capitalism, working stiffs, and weirdos. We like bizarro. We like horror. We like our sci-fi and fantasy on the weirder side. We like humor. Think Joe R. Lansdale. Think Victor Pelevin. Think Brian Keene. Think Jessica McHugh. Really. This is a loosey-goosey guideline. The title obfuscates as much as it reveals. We know. It was done on purpose. Cults! Murder! Capitalism! Take it and run. Word count: no more than 3000 words. Payment: 6 cents per word. Is that weird Soviet era sci-fi illustration of a robot the cover? No, it's just a public domain placeholder for this website. We have commissioned a local Austin, TX artist for the cover. Poetry Send no more than 3 poems. If accepted, we'll pay a flat rate of $10 per poem. SUBMISSIONS ARE OPEN UNTIL JUNE 5, 2018. Anything submitted after that will go unread unless we announce an extension. Send your stuff as a doc or docx file to [email protected]. rtf file format will not be opened. Subject line should read: SUBMISSION - - Include a short bio in your email. Try to follow this format. We don't need your physical mailing address. We want first North American rights to your story on acceptance. Payment will be on publication. We'll send contracts out and exchange payment information on acceptance. FearBot3000 returns to Sleep Mode. Via: The Cockroach Conservatory.

Taking Submissions: So Here’s My Plan…
Taking Submissions: So Here’s My Plan…
Deadline: June 15, 2018 Payment: $5 Canadian Time-travelling bank heists! Prison breakouts from the fortresses of immortal wizards! Train robberies by steam-powered automatons! Intergalactic spies! Battles of wits between cyborg hackers and AI detectives! Swashbuckling! Fisticuffs! Ridiculously complicated schemes! People gathered around a diorama of a bank vault making wisecracks! Things not going according to plan! We're looking for fast-paced, dramatic stories up to 7,000 words, with protagonists we can admire for their intricate planning, improvisation, and general adroitness (whether they succeed or fail in the end). Think "Topkapi", "Inside Man", that episode of Firefly where they rob the train, that sort of thing. We want to see elaborate heists and impressive schemes, in a science-fictional or fantasy setting (any subgenre). We welcome and encourage submissions from authors of traditionally underrepresented backgrounds, and we'd love to see stories that subvert or play with genre tropes. We will be open to submissions from May 1 to June 15, 2018. As stated, the word limit is 7,000 words; if you have a longer story that you think would be a particularly good fit for our theme, please query us before sending. Please send your submissions as either a .doc or .rtf (no .docx) to [email protected]. What we don't want: Stories with no speculative fiction element. This isn't a market for true crime stories or modern-day thrillers. Horror stories, or stories with gratuitous or unnecessary violence or gore. We enjoy a good fight scene and we're not averse to violence that's necessary to the story, but we don't want a straight-up murder spree. We much prefer protagonists who get out of a jam with quick thinking, fancy footwork, clever dialogue and razzle-dazzle. If your story is further along the horror spectrum than "creepily atmospheric," we're probably the wrong place for it. Likewise, we're fine...
Taking Submissions: In The Air
Taking Submissions: In The Air
Deadline: June 15th, 2018 Payment: $10-20 and a contributor's copy DEADLINE: 15 JUNE 2018 AIR surrounds us. Invisible but everywhere, AIR can be gentle and playful spirit, or an aggressive and destructive force. Winds lift and move water, driving the storms and waves that irrigate crops and shape shorelines. The breeze can transport seeds, fertilizing the earth and spreading life in its wake. AIR feeds fire, gives life to its burning creativity. Our words and music vibrate within AIR; its gusts allow our species to communicate and sing with one and other. AIR fills the spaces within our lives, it is the element that whispers dreams and lets the world dance. TRANSMUNDANE PRESS is searching for stories centered on and about AIR for the next anthology in our series focusing on the classic alchemic elements, EARTH, AIR, FIRE, and WATER. We enjoy reading well-crafted fantasy, horror, erotic, and science fiction tales, and we're looking for authors with clean, heavily-edited writing to showcase alongside our established contributors. Let your imagination squall and launch you IN THE AIR. We’re only accepting 30-40 stories for this anthology. SUBMISSION GUIDELINES: Send stories that are heavily edited and ready for us to read. These must be original pieces for first-time publication. Limit of two submissions per person, if you have more, make a note of it in your email, and we’ll ask if we’re interested. WORD COUNT: between 3,000 and 7,000 words. FORMATTING: Your submissions must be in 12 point, Times New Roman font, double-spaced with page numbers. We like headers in the top right corner with your last name and page numbers so that your work can't get jumbled up. A title page with author information: address, e-mail, phone number, word count, a brief author bio, and your platform links. SUBMITTING THE FILE: word...

Taking Submissions: Road Kill: Texas Horror Volume 3
Deadline: June 15th, 2018 Payment: 10,000 words – $100 / 7,500 words – $75 / 5,000 words – $50 / 2,500 words – $25 / 1,500 words – $15 Note: Writers must be from Texas and the story must take place in Texas. Hello, E.R. Bills here. I am the editor of Vol 3 of the upcoming horror title, Road Kill: Texas Horror by Texas Writers, from Hellbound Books Publishing. Due to the popularity of the Road Kill anthology, I’m “scaring” up stories from Texas writers again. I’m looking for original horror stories, 1,500–10,000 words, give or take. If I receive a 14,000-word story that really blows my hair back, I will consider it. And the same for an 800-word tale. I prefer not to receive stories that have already appeared elsewhere. Submissions should be sent to [email protected] The primary objective of Road Kill is to promote new and up-and-coming horror writers in Texas, but the collection will include some works from established writers (previous contributors to Road Kill are invited to submit as well). The stories must be written and submitted by Texas writers and they must take place in Texas—hence the title. No one will be making a fortune, but we will be paying one-time fees (based on word count) and if the anthology sells over 5,000 copies, royalty percentages—1% per writer—will kick in. Every writer will receive two free copies and enjoy discounted wholesale pricing on any copies of the book that he or she purchases to carry and sell on their own. The scale for writer stipends is as follows: 10,000 words – $100 / 7,500 words – $75 / 5,000 words – $50 / 2,500 words – $25 / 1,500 words – $15 All payments will be made upon official acceptance and when acceptance is communicated,...

Taking Submissions: The Rabbit Dies First
Taking Submissions: The Rabbit Dies First
Deadline: June 30th, 2018 Payment: 1 cent/word and a contributor copy The Rabbit Dies First FurPlanet is pleased to invite writers of anthropomorphic fiction to submit to its upcoming anthology, The Rabbit Dies First. We are looking for stories of all genres: scifi, fantasy, horror, mystery, crime, romance, or slice of life -- to name a few -- all centered around two concepts: the rabbit is going to die, and someone else is next. But I don't want to kill a rabbit! Then don't! Maybe the rabbit knows the rabbit is supposed to die first. Maybe everyone only expects the rabbit to die. Maybe death isn't what it seems. We encourage you to play with the concept, rebel against it, or adhere to it--whatever makes a great story. Seriously, what genre? Is erotic fiction okay? Erotic fiction is okay as long as it contributes to a good story. We're looking for a balanced anthology with many different genre types, so give us the type of story you love to write the most, or take this opportunity to try a genre you've always wanted to write in. We want to put out a book full of stories that are fun, gripping, heartbreaking, suspenseful, sweet, sexy, terrifying, and any combination. Want to write a prison drama or a high seas adventure? Send it to us! Just remember: The Rabbit Dies First. Is there anything you don't want? We also do not want stories with only humans and no anthropomorphic animals. We do welcome and will be looking for diverse voices. Submission Guidelines Submissions should be in standard manuscript format and attached in .doc, .docx., or .rtf format in an email to [email protected] with the subject STORY SUBMISSION: In the message body, please include a brief cover letter introducing yourself and your story....
Taking Submissions: City In The Ice
Taking Submissions: City In The Ice
Deadline: June 30th, 2018 Payment: $25 There are very few places left in this world that haven’t been explored, mapped, and inhabited. The majority of the surface of the earth is known down to the millimeter. However, a few mysteries do remain. The depths of the oceans evade discovery simply because of their inaccessibility. Likewise, the icy stretches of the last great continent that continues to resist human knowledge: Antarctica. Recent archeological finds confirm that Antarctica was once at least temperate if not subtropical millennia ago. Various authors have recounted, through their fictions, stories relayed to them by survivors of the few successful forays into the icy continent’s heart. In 1819, the San Telmo, a Spanish ship of the line, was lost off the coast of Antarctica with all 644 aboard. Since then, tales have surfaced in rumor, fiction, and legend about the terrors haunting the vast wasteland surrounding the nether pole of the world. The place was one of singular wildness, and its aspect brought to my mind the descriptions given by travellers of those dreary regions marking the site of degraded Babylon. Not to speak of the ruins of the disruptured cliff, which formed a chaotic barrier in the vista to the northward, the surface of the ground in every other direction was strewn with huge tumuli, apparently the wreck of some gigantic structures of art; although, in detail, no semblance of art could be detected. Scoria were abundant, and large shapeless blocks of the black granite, intermingled with others of marl, and both granulated with metal. Of vegetation there were no traces whatsoever throughout the whole of the desolate area within sight. Several immense scorpions were seen, and various reptiles not elsewhere to be found in the high latitudes. from The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of...
Taking Submissions: Under the Full Moon’s Light
Taking Submissions: Under the Full Moon’s Light
Deadline: June 30th, 2018 Payment: $50 and a contributor's copy On a recent camping trip with my family, the stillness of the night seemed to amplify each sound. Every rustle of a branch or scrape of a twig seemed louder than a gunshot. I froze in fear and barely slept a wink all night. I felt exposed and vulnerable, and it terrified me. Knowing that bears often visited this park didn’t help matters either. How could I sleep when an attack could come from any direction? This frightful anticipation reminded me of a scene from one of my favorite TV shows, Lost. Survivors from a plane crash hear the metallic scream of an unknown beast that sounds like a dinosaur in the jungle as it draws closer to their safe position on the beach. Palm trees are knocked sideways at an alarming rate as a terror in the night inches closer to their vulnerable location. Not being able to see the beast heightens the suspense. What is that thing? When will it strike? How can they survive? I wonder how our early ancestors slept outside in the open air. Did they ever feel secure enough to fall into a deep sleep? I think it would be impossible for me. I find security in our houses, towns, and cities. So many horrors lurk in dark alleyways and shelter in deserted corners of the world. Very quickly, my mind pictures vampires hungry for blood or monsters creeping through abandoned buildings on the outside of town. A fire burning bright in the darkness seems like a beacon of hope. Light seems to drive the fear away and offer a bit of safety, while the dark unknown teems with danger. But adding the lure of a full moon to a night already fraught with...

Note: Reprints Allowed Short version: -We buy original (3cents/word) and reprint (penny/word) short stories -Length up to 7500 words. -Anonymize your manuscript before sending it via email as a doc, docx, or rtf. -If accepted, your story will be published in ebook and print-on-demand formats. -If accepted, we will try to produce your story on a podcast, but this does not always pan out. It’s complicated. The way is fraught with bear traps and wolves. Long version: Curiosities is a paying speculative fiction anthology podcast and magazine. What makes us different from other SF/F/H markets is that most of our stories have some sort of anachropunkish retro-vintage element, and the handful of others that don’t were the ones that grabbed us by the throat and demanded to be bought. Clear as mud? Good. About 2/3 of submissions are rejected for “Bad Fit.” What we’re looking for: As an audio venue, we want stories that entertain. We want to be taken on an adventure in a time that never was, be it steampunk, gaslamp, weird tales, dreadpunk, vintage horror, mad science, fantastic cities (please!), monsters, impossible machines, clockworks, alt-history adventures, surprises, weird westerns, and things that shouldn’t work. What we don’t want: Serialized novels. Novel excerpts. Stories longer than 7500 words. Fan fiction. Sherlockians. Vulgar language used as punctuation. Cutters. Horror stories that spend most of the word count telling us all the mundane little details of the contemporary protag’s lifestyle before getting to it. JFK theories. Anything that has been on a podcast within the past 18 months. What’s a hard sell: Slipstream. Excessive splatter. Horror based in domestic violence or sexual perversion. Stories that take place in outer space. Anything set after the...

Taking Submissions: Test Patterns : Creature Features
Taking Submissions: Test Patterns : Creature Features
Deadline: July 1st, 2018 Payment: $100 Test Patterns : Creature Features (a follow up to 2017’s Test Patterns) Seeking: Original stories of 2500-7000 words (no reprints or poetry currently, thank you) and no bio / biblio info attached, please. Payment is $100 for an accepted story. Multiple subs are fine, but we will only select at most one story per author. We are currently estimating a need for about 25 stories for the book total, depending on length The Theme: We're looking for stories that involve monsters! Our loose theme is based on the SF/F TV programs of the late 50s/early 60s, (Twilight Zone, Outer Limits; but think of the vibe, not literal pastiche; i.e. twist endings, weird situational reveals, moral / allegorical messages told through a spec-fic lens) but we will consider any well-written speculative tale The Details: File format should be MS Word compatible, exact file type and / or formatting doesn’t matter much to us, we will handle most of that on the back end to fit the aesthetics of the final book. We are projecting our window to stay open June 1st through July 1st, but will make an announcement if we fill up before then, again, we are projecting about 25 stories for this volume Submissions should be directed to our editor; Duane Pesice at: moderan(at)hotmail(dot)com Use “creature features” as the subject line to help us keep them sorted and separated, please We tried to cover all the details above, but any questions can be asked here or we’re always open for PM’s, thanks Via: Test Patterns' Facebook.
