Ongoing Submissions: Etherea Magazine
Payment: $100 AUD for original work, $25 AUD per reprint
Theme: fantasy and science fiction short stories
Note: Reprints Welcome
Etherea is seeking fantasy and science fiction short stories. We are not too interested in horror or grimdark, however every submission is read and considered on its merits. Fan fiction will not be accepted.
Please ensure that you proofread your submission. A story riddled with spelling mistakes will be discarded.
We will endeavour to respond to every submission within an acceptable time, however, some things do fall through the cracks. If you have not had a response in two months since submitting, please feel free to contact us. We will not be responding to questions about rejected submissions.
Upon acceptance of a submission, we purchase the First Publication Rights, and non-exclusive rights to include the story in anthology.
Etherea Magazine is an Australian publication, so payment will be made in Australian dollars, via Paypal. As such, submissions will need to be made by those 18 years and older. We are looking for stories of length between 2000 and 5000 words, but longer will be accepted. We pay a flat rate of A$100 per original, unpublished story.
We are also looking for flash fiction, from 500 to 1000 words. A flat rate of A$25 will be paid per story. Horror may be accepted in this section, however must have an element of the supernatural.
We also accept reprints, however this must be indicated in the submission. Proof that exclusivity limits have lapsed will be required. Reprints must be between 2000 and 5000 words, and will be paid at a flat rate of $25 per story.
Regardless of whether you receive an acceptance or rejection, please wait 21 days before submitting another story.
We are open to receiving serials, however they must be in a complete condition at time of submission. I’ll be honest, acceptance chances are slim.
Submission Method
Submissions are to be made to [email protected]. Please state in the email’s Subject whether you are making a Public, Australian, Reprint, or Flash Fiction Submission, and the title of your story. Or for Letters to the Editor, place Letter and your pen name in the subject. For clarity;
- Public Submission – Name of your Story
- Australian Submission – Name of your Story
- Flash Fiction – Name of your Story
- Reprint – Name of your story
Submissions will be accepted in RTF, DOC or DOCX format. Please follow the standard manuscript format.
Multiple submissions are not accepted. We do accept simultaneous submissions (submission sent to others as well as us).
Letters to the Editor should be titled as “Letter”, and the letter is to be in the body of the email, with either your name or pen name at the end.
Public Submissions
Public Submissions are those that come from the wider audience. The submission may come from any position on the planet.
Australian Submissions
Australian submissions are just that. We are an Australian publication, and have dedicated ourselves to publishing a minimum of 25% Australian content. If your submission is selected, you will have to prove your residency. Australian citizenship is not required, only residency.
Reprints
Any story that has been previously published, be it in an alternate magazine, on a blog or website, or in an anthology. Please attach proof that there are no limitations still standing on the publication of the story (if a contract was signed)
Flash Fiction
Flash fiction submissions are far less rigid than the other categories. As long as there is a touch of the mystical, we will consider it.
Thank you for reading through the guidelines, and best of luck with your submissions! I look forward to reading them.
