Taking Submissions: Holiday Magick: An Unconventional Anthology of Holiday Stories
Taking Submissions: Holiday Magick: An Unconventional Anthology of Holiday Stories
Deadline: June 25th, 2012 Payment: $10 advance paid upon publication, a contributor copy of the paper version, a royalty percentage split among all contributors We are looking for stories that tell alternative explanations or interpretations of the classic traditions and/or origins of holidays. Stories in the anthology will come from a variety of viewpoints, including the mythical, the magical, and the supernatural. No holiday is too small to be seen from a different perspective. Just think: Easter Egg hunts teaching survival skills to militant bunnies. A groundhog sharing his shadow to pay an ancient debt. St. Valentine creating a holiday to stave off vampire attacks. Halloween as the demons’ day off. You may think you know the truth, but you haven’t heard the real stories yet! Suggested Length: 3,000-7,000 words. Up to 10,000 words is possible, but it will be a HARD sell. Due Date: June 25, 2012 Editors: Richard Storrs and Jessica Porteous Submission Guidelines: Please email your submissions to us at [email protected] Put your story into the BODY of the email (no attachments, please!) and put "Holiday Magick" in your subject line, along with the title of your story. You are welcome to submit multiple stories; stories will be selected based on quality and on achieving a balance of holidays and story genres within the anthology. Legalese: We can only accept previously unpublished stories. Please do not use licensed characters or any trademarked or copyright-protected material without written permission in advance of submission (This is NOT the place for “A Christmas Carol for Jabba the Hutt”). We’re also not looking for stories that use holidays merely as settings, without any connection to holiday traditions. Contributor compensation will include a $10 advance paid upon publication, a contributor copy of the paper version, a royalty percentage split among all contributors,...

Taking Submissions: Hills of Fire: Bare-Knuckle Yarns of Appalachia
Deadline: June 30th, 2012 Payment: five-cents per word (upon publication) plus contributor copy. Anthology Guidelines Title: Hills of Fire: Bare-Knuckle Yarns of Appalachia Publisher: Woodland Press Editor: Frank Larnerd Format: Trade Paperback Payment: five-cents per word (upon publication) plus contributor copy. No reprints Story length: Up to 2500 words No multiple or simultaneous subs Deadline: 12:00am Saturday, June 30th, 2012 E-mail submissions to: [email protected] .doc attachments only. I am looking for fictional pulp action stories in an Appalachian setting. Submitted stories should harken back to the square-jawed tales of Robert E. Howard, Dashiell Hammett, and Louis L'Amour. Stories can be set in any time period, but must take place in the Appalachian region. Stories involving mountain men, moonshine runners, lawmen, heists, wrestling, soldiers, and outlaws are highly encouraged. Addition of regional history and folklore is also advised. Complex characters should be equally mixed with solid plots and high octane excitement. Submissions should avoid popular action clichés and unflattering Appalachian stereotypes. Although the anthology is mainly targeted for adults, we DO NOT want stories containing language or content unsuitable for children. Accepted Manuscript Formatting: Double-spaced. Use Times New Roman (12). Italicize what you want italicized. Single space after sentence-ending punctuation. Be sure to include your name, address, and email on your manuscript.

Taking Submissions: Christmas Ghost Stories Annual 2012
Taking Submissions: Christmas Ghost Stories Annual 2012
Deadline: June 30th 2012 Payment: Undisclosed amount and contributor's copy Cast your minds back a couple of months, to when I announced that Spectral will be publishing an annual Christmas Ghost Story anthology, starting in December 2012, in the same tradition as the annuals of the Victorian/Edwardian era. In that same blog I said I would release details of the submission process this January, and that time has duly arrived – so interested parties please read the following carefully!! Unlike the chapbooks, this is an open call for submissions from ALL authors (including those writers already published, or are due to be published, by Spectral). What we are looking for are ghostly/supernatural tales of between 5,000 and 10,000 words, set around the time of the Christmas/Mid-winter celebrations. Think of the kind of thing that MR James and Charles Dickens would have written at this time of year and you’ll be on the right track. The stories should primarily rely on atmosphere, tension, suspense, suggestion and implication to send shivers down peoples’ spines: whilst we are not averse to something of the more visceral kind (provided it works within the context of the story), we are not looking for slasher/unhinged psychopath with a sharp instrument/serial killer or gore-filled fiction. The final format or formats has/have yet to be decided. Please send submissions, in a Word attachment please, to spectralpressgmailcom, with the subject line ‘Spectral Christmas Ghost Story Annual 2012 – submission’. Please do NOT paste your story into the body of the email – if this happens then your submission will be ignored. The deadline for stories to reach us is June 30th 2012 – stories submitted after this date will not be considered. All stories must be original, with the copyright belonging to the author in question, and must not...

When something scares us, it tends to hit all of our senses and get us emotionally charged. We tend to try to think things through, but are not afraid to kick ass to protect those we love. Dark Moon is looking for stories written by women for a special women’s only anthology. The type of story isn’t important (ghost, zombie, vampire, spider, ghoul, ex-husband) as long as it scares us. Please no over-the-top gore or erotica. Just make sure you frighten us and show everyone that women know how to make those dark nights a little darker and scarier with the best of them. Taking Submissions: The Dead Sea
Taking Submissions: The Dead Sea
Deadline: June 30th, 2012 Payment: Exposure Only Cruentus Libri Press is pleased to announce its forthcoming anthology, now open for submission. The Dead Sea is a horror anthology featuring stories set on the high seas. We are looking for tales that successfully combine this nautical setting with undead creatures from the dark recesses of your mind. WHAT WE WANT The nautical theme and the undead monsters are essential. We want to feel that sense of isolation that comes from being caught in the middle of the inhospitable ocean. We don’t care if the action takes place on an ocean liner, a life boat, an oil rig, a diving bell or anything else that you deem appropriate, so long as the comfort of terra firma is nowhere to be found. Likewise, your choice of undead can cover anything from the usual zombies, vampires and werewolves (yeah, we class them as undead here – that’s just how we roll) to ghosts, banshees and any other assorted horrors you can come up with. WHAT WE DON’T WANT Ghosts ships (a la The Flying Dutchman) and zombie pirates. We know that might come as a disappointment to you all, but they’ve been done to death (no pun intended). This is especially true in light of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and we fell we owe it to our readers to steer well clear. That said, you are welcome to pen stories involving ghost ships of the Mary Celeste persuasion – eerily floating vessels, bereft of human life – just avoid glowing green galleons on the horizon and we’ll be fine. This is a horror anthology intended for an adult audience. Whilst we have no qualms about including sex, violence and swearing in the stories, don’t make it gratuitous – ask yourself whether the...

Standing stones, burial mounds, ruined castles or sunken settlements, the ancient sites that litter our landscapes have a mysterious appeal which cannot be denied. Take us on a journey around the esoteric and enigmatic places that cannot fail to fire the imagination. Intrigue us, thrill us, make us wonder about the where, the what and the who. We are interested in fantasy, sf, weird and horror tales of all kinds. (No erotica, romance or poetry.) THE ALCHEMY PRESS BOOK OF ANCIENT WONDERS will be a paperback to be published in September 2012, to be followed by an eBook edition. Taking Submissions: After Death
Taking Submissions: After Death
Deadline: June 30th 2012 Payment: One cent per word and one contributor copy, payable upon publication (negotiated rates for established authors). OPEN SUBMISSIONS - New Fiction Anthology: AFTER DEATH… NOW ACCEPTING SUBMISSIONS! New Fiction Anthology: AFTER DEATH… Title: After Death… Edited by: Eric J. Guignard Publisher: Dark Moon Books http://www.darkmoonbooks.com/ Submissions Due: June 30, 2012 Release Date: Spring, 2013 Send submissions and questions to: [email protected] Death. Who has not considered their own mortality and wondered at what awaits, once our frail human shell expires? What occurs after the heart stops beating, after the last breath is drawn, after life as we know it terminates? Each person has their own beliefs, whether based on science, a traditional religion, or perhaps dark, personal experimentation. Do we transcend to another dimension or celestial world? Does our spirit remain while the body rots? Are we given another opportunity to do it all over again? Can we die again in the afterlife? Do we find ways to cheat death and maintain a semblance of living after the mortician declares, D.O.A.? Do we all just end up in a cosmic purée, drunk by an Elvis Presley overlord? I am looking for stories of Horror, Dark, and Speculative Fiction, including all associated sub-genres (NO high-fantasy and limited on hard science fiction) that explore this theme: What may occur to someone AFTER they have died. Yes, this anthology will probably have stories involving demons and angels. Yes, this anthology will probably have stories of people's ghosts coming back to haunt the earth. Yes, this anthology will probably have stories of people reanimating into zombies or vampires or other traditional creatures of the night. However, these "obvious" tales will take a back seat to ideas that are much more disturbing or wildly imaginative. Think of reincarnation into another body...

Taking Submissions: The Darkness Within

Submissions are welcomed for a print-on-demand anthology themed The Darkness Within. You may submit more than one story for consideration. Submissions for artwork are welcomed. The darkness within can be within a person, within a place or anything you can dream up that fits the theme. It could be the darkness inside a mind, or inside a ping-pong ball; within a universe or within an atom. The theme is a common one, so I would be more inclined towards stories that are 'outside the box'. Not too heavy on the gore or on "intimacies" in your stories please. No child abuse. Horror is good, fantasy is good, sci fi is good, the genre is yours to choose as you will. No DnD creatures or any creature belonging to other authors. Stories should be submitted in word documents, in Times New Roman 12 point. Please set up your paragraphs using first line indentation of 0.63cm and in single line spacing. Deadline: July 1, 2012 Payment: A royalty pool will be generated on print and eBook sales, at a rate of 10% royalties for print, and a rate of 50% royalties for eBooks, with each included story having an equal share of the royalty pool. Royalty statements and payments will be made bi-annually. All included authors will receive a complimentary trade paperback copy of the anthology. Seventh Star Press is proud to announce a call for submissions for an exciting new anthology to be edited by Joshua Leet, entitled The End Was Not the End: Post-Apocalyptic Fantasy Tales. The stories can be up to 10,000 words in length, and must be set within a setting ranging between ancient worlds, like the Sword and Sorcery Hyborean Age of Robert E. Howard, to medieval settings like those found in many epic fantasy series. Timed appropriately for 2012, the anthology will focus on the aftermath of an apocalypse. The stories can have any style or feature any Earth culture-inspired background, such as the more commonly encountered european-based knights and wizards, to Viking sagas, Russian folklore, Chinese wuxia, Japanese samurai, and Native American environments, just to name a few. The apocalypse itself can be whatever suits the writer, be it magical catastrophe, plague, monster horde, the death of gods, etc. It can include modern catastrophes that precipitated regression in technological level to a medieval or ancient world type level. The stories should have a serious overall tone, and can range from action-driven to tales with a darker edge. Joshua is currently serving as the editor for Sela, the forthcoming second book in the Leland Dragon Series by Jackie Gamber, as well as the newest Gorias La Gaul adventure from Steven Shrewsbury, titled Overkill. Taking Submissions: The Year
Taking Submissions: The Year
Deadline: July 1st 2012 Payment: £10 and contributor's copy Screaming Dreams and Noose & Gibbet are proud to announce a joint project, simply called ‘THE YEAR’. It will be published in 2013 and edited by Johnny Mains and Steve Upham. This anthology will showcase the very best writings of Crime, Horror, Science Fiction and Fantasy. 52 stories, one for each week of the year... This project is currently open to submissions and while we are mainly focused on new, original fiction – there will be three classic reprints from each genre. As the budget for the publishers will be rather taxing, payment will be £10 and a copy of the finished book. Stories will have to be no more than 3k in length. If you’re a horror writer but have always wanted to write a crime tale, give it a shot – if you’re a die-hard sci-fi scribe, why not jump into the land of orcs and magic talismans. What will NOT get in the book are mash-ups, emotive vampires and sadly there will be no room at the inn for zombies. TV and film related spin off stories will also be a no-go. The deadline is July 1st 2012 – this will give you enough time to think of a story, write it and send it in. You will be informed of whether you are in the book by Sept 1st 2012. No multiple submissions allowed and the date for all authors to sign off their individual stories will be February 1st 2013 with the book being published at the World Fantasy Convention in Brighton Oct 31st – Nov 3rd.

Stories under 1,000 words will receive only the original $5 payment (no future royalties). Theme: New takes on the classic ghost story Submission period: May 7-July 7, 2012 World Weaver Press seeks new and previously published short fiction in the vein of the classic ghost story for themed anthology, SPECTER SPECTACULAR, to be published fall 2012 as ebook and print edition with online distribution. Spirits, hauntings, specters, boggarts, poltergeists — give us your best ghosts and spooky whatnots! Scary or funny, tragic or redemptive — we’re looking for the full spectrum. We’ll be looking for at least one funny piece to end the anthology. Anthology will be published fall 2012, but stories don’t need to be Halloween themed. We hope writers will draw inspiration from such classics as The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, A Christmas Carol, The Woman in Black, The Haunting of Hill House, Annabel Lee or others, but we are not (necessarily) looking for retellings of those tales. This is not an anthology for slashers, serial killers, zombies, vampires, or other undead creatures (their World Weaver Press anthology will come one day; this is not that day). Rights sought: For previously unpublished stories, first world rights in English and exclusive rights to publish in print and electronic format for six months after publication date after which publisher holds nonexclusive right to continue to publish. For reprints, non-exclusive world right to publish in print and electronic form; publisher requests reprinted stories not be resold to other markets for six months after the anthology publication date. Length: Fiction 1,000 – 10,000 words. This range is malleable but odds of us buying something outside the range is highly unlikely. Payment:...

Taking Submissions: Gothic Blue Book Volume 2
Taking Submissions: Gothic Blue Book Volume 2
Deadline: July 13th, 2012 Payment: Exposure Only Burial Day Books Call for Submission: Gothic Blue Book VOL 2 Gothic Blue Books were short fictions popular in the 18th and 19th century. They were descendants of the chap book trade and are now a thing of the past. Burial Day Books will resurrect this art form with a new twist with its own Gothic Blue Book Vol 2 to be available this October 31st 2012. What was a Gothic Blue Book? Gothic Blue Books were abridgements of full-length Gothic novels. The subjects of the books fell into one of two categories; the first being set in a monastery or convent and the second being set in a castle. In terms of the physicality of the book, they were three and a half to four inches in width and six to seven inches in height, with a page count of thirty-six to seventy-two pages in length. These little pieces of terror were popular at the time because they were affordable, a sixpence or a shilling each. Their cost affordability led them to be nicknamed Shilling Shockers or Sixpenny Shockers. What are we looking for? We are looking for a short story, about 3,500 words in length. If your story is longer but you feel it is fitting due feel free to submit for our review. We will also consider a poem. The story must have at least a mention or take place in either one of the following original Gothic Blue Book guidelines or New Burial Day Books Gothic Blue Book guidelines. Original Gothic Blue Book guideline: a) Setting in a monastery or convent b) Setting in a castle New Burial Day Gothic Blue Book guideline: a) Setting in a cemetery, funeral home or morgue b) Setting in a haunted house In...

Taking Submissions: Steampunk Cthulhu
Deadline: July 31st, 2012 Payment: .03 a word and 3 complementary contributor copies The age of steam meets the age of Cthulhu, in a past where technology unbound warps Victorian Britain and the world at large into a dark Steampunk reality. In Steampunk Cthulhu (yes that’s only a working title) we are looking for stories set in a world where futuristic visions of technology, advanced machines undreamt of in the Victorian era, are powered by steam, or sometimes the inscrutable minds of dark, god-like beings. Undreamt of yes, and maybe a nightmare here, think of what would happen if HG Wells had sent his Time Machine to a past when the Elder Things ruled the globe, or Jules Verne’s Captain Nemo was an evil acolyte of Cthulhu? Of course we don’t want you to limit yourselves to fictional characters of the genre, but you can use these, historical personages and your own protagonists and cultists of Cthulhu. Space travel, journeys to the center of the earth and 20,000 leagues under R’lyeh, we want to see Victorian globetrotting adventurers and wild technologies in the Wild West. Think zeppelins crossed with tomes of forbidden knowledge, steam powered automatons battling indescribable beasts from beyond time and space, fanciful high-tech gadgets and blood drenched arcane artifacts, the wonders of tomorrow meting the horror of inescapable doom, and if you can put your own unique spin on both the steampunk setting and the Cthulhu Mythos, so much the better. Authors should be well versed in both the stempunk setting and Lovecraftian horror as a good blending of both is what we’re after. If you’re looking for info on steampunk, check the Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steampunk) for a brief overview and a small selection of authors and books to get you started. If you need to bone up...

Taking Submissions: Into The Darkness Anthology
Taking Submissions: Into The Darkness Anthology
Deadline: July 31st 2012 Payment: $.02/word. Two copies of the trade paperback. Payment upon publication. INTO THE DARKNESS Anthology Edited by C. Dennis Moore and David G. Barnett Necro Publications INTO THE DARKNESS was a magazine started by David G. Barnett in the mid-90s and focused on modern adult horror fiction by new authors, many of which are now respected names in the horror fiction world: Edward Lee, Charlee Jacob, John Everson, Gerard Houarner, DF Lewis and dozens more. After only five issues Necro moved into books and stopped publishing the magazine. Well, now Necro wants to bring it back. Okay, not the magazine, but the spirit of it in the form of an all-new anthology series. INTO THE DARKNESS Anthology is looking for dark, brutal, unrelenting horror fiction from new and established authors alike. One of the things we always loved with the magazine was finding new voices in modern horror and we want to start doing that again. Here’s some things we’re looking for: • Solid story and interesting characters are the two most important elements. • Modern voice. Nothing old fashioned. No traditional ghost stories. We’re not looking for writers trying to channel Lovecraft or Poe. • New monsters. If you’re going to create a monster then explain the monster. Don’t just throw it in at the end. The monster is probably a hell of a lot more interesting than anything else. Same goes for killers and psychos. • If you’re going to give us a vampire, zombie or other traditional monster please do something new and interesting with it. • Violence, sex, profanity and gore are all fine as long as they are integral to the story. If you’re just trying an experiment in writing only grossout we don’t want it. After 20 years we’ve seen...
Taking Submissions: Once Upon An Apocalypse
Taking Submissions: Once Upon An Apocalypse
Deadline: July 31st 2012 Payment: $.03 per word, no royalties and 3 free books and additional copies at 50% off cover. Over the river and through the woods does not always lead to grandma’s house or happy endings – especially if grandma’s house is infested with zombies… or if grandma is really a Lovecraftian being in disguise. Once Upon an Apocalypse is a two volume post apocalyptic anthology laden with the undead and otherwordly mythos crossing into the realm of fairy tales, nursery rhymes and other timeless stories. Editors Rachel Kenley and Scott T. Goudsward and publisher Chaosium are currently open to submissions for these two books of mixed up retold fairy tales. What are we looking for? For both volumes we want stories with strong narrative lines, stronger characters and a clear blending of the theme and the fairy tales. For Volume One imagine Cinderella arriving at the ball and discovering it filled with zombies. Or how different the story would be if it were Snow White and the Seven Zombies. Give us new horrors with Alice in Zombieland, and a Prince who climbs Rapunzel’s hair to get away from and find a way to defeat – you guessed it – zombies. In Volume Two we want a strong dose of Lovecraft thrown in. What happens to the townspeople in The Boy who Cried Cthulhu? Pinocchio is going to have a much harder time getting out of the Old One than the whale; a wolf would have been preferable to Little Red Riding Hood and the Byahkee and the Little Mermaid has so much more to worry about then her legs and a missing voice when she faces a Deep One. Once you choose a story to change it’s your call how far you will take it. Make the...
Taking Submissions: Cthulhurotica Vollume 2
Taking Submissions: Cthulhurotica Vollume 2
Deadline: July 31, 2012 Payment: 2 cents per word, paid within 90 days after publication. Contributor copy of print and ebook (can choose between .epub or .mobi/Kindle versions) What is Erotica? Erotica is literature or art intended to arouse sexual desire. It is not mature content, which is understood to have sexual arousal as its main purpose. Erotica includes a sexual aspect but it is only one part of the larger aesthetic. In other words, writing erotica is not about graphic descriptions of people having sex, it’s about making your reader want to have sex. It’s a tease, a flirt, a seduction … Who is Cthulhu? H.P. Lovecraft wrote smart, surreal, supernatural horror stories in the early 20th century. Cthulhu is one of several fictional creatures created by Lovecraft in the early 20th century. Lovecraft’s stories, and some of the works of his followers, outline what we now call the “Cthulhu Mythos”. Mythos characters include both the monsters and the men who discovered them. Cthulhurotica is the place where sex and madness meet. What are we hoping to get from Volume 2? We want to expand on the first book, without discarding any of it. The stories from Cthulhurotica are bold, sexy, creepy, empowering and frightening. What we’re looking for now is more … We want stories which use more of Lovecraft’s settings and characters. We’ve got Innsmouth and Arkham, but what about the mountains, the Artic, aboard the Emma? We met Nyarlathotep, the Mi Go, and the King in Yellow, but what about Ithaqua, or the Hounds of Tindalos? Tell us about Charles Dexter Ward’s neighbor, or the secretary in Professor Peaslee’s office. What if Richard Upton Pickman painted pinup girls too? There is so much, both in Lovecraft’s work and in the associated Mythos stories by other authors,...
Taking Submissions: Rigorous Mortis: A Collection of Morticians Tales
Taking Submissions: Rigorous Mortis: A Collection of Morticians Tales
Deadline: July 31st 2012 Payment: Exposure Only We are seeking submissions for Rigorous Mortis: A Collection of Mortician's Tales, edited by Allen Jacoby and Jo-Anne Russell. Morticians are, by all accounts, pretty damned interesting people. They possess the dexterity of doctors, the talent of artists, and just a drop (or maybe a gallon) of the macabre fascination with death that any good horror writer (or reader!) knows all too well. So, we thought, why not write about THEM? After all, we've all read our fair share of stories about the dead, why they died, and who killed them...but what about the people who deal with the aftermath? So that's what we want. Give us your tales of undertakers, morticians, coroners, either as heroes, villains, or just good hard working individuals trying to get a job done. Obviously, the theme is Morticians: We're expecting a good deal of slasher-tales, dead-rising, etc etc., But if you can manage to chill us to the bone and heat up our formaldehyde with a good romance or drama at the same time? Well then, more power to you. Just give us your best. Reprints okay, but they have to knock off our toe tags! Format 1. 12 point font, prefer Times. 2. Single line spacing, with an indent of .2”, special first line only. 3. No tabbing or spacebar indents please! 4. Attach submission to email, and include a cover letter in the body of the email with standard contact information: Name, address, email, etc. 5. We will accept attachments in the following formats: .doc, .docx. .rtf. If these formats are not possible for you, query with the format you are able to use. Payments and Deadlines As we are just starting out, monetary payment is not possible at this time. We hope in the...

We want to read creepy, cerebral horror that will have them checking their closets and beneath their beds. Taking Submissions: Lucha Gore
Taking Submissions: Lucha Gore
Deadline: July 31st 2012 Payment: All contributors are will be paid £3.00 for every 150 copies of their respective anthology sold. This payment is cumulative, meaning that, if a given anthology sells 300 copies, each contributor will receive £6.00, if it sells 450 copies, each contributor will receive £9.00 and so on. This applies to all sales of the anthology, in every format. Royalties will be payable for the first two years of the book’s existence. Cruentus Libri Press is pleased to announce its forthcoming anthology, now open for submission. Lucha Gore: Scares from the Squared Circle is a horror anthology set in wild and wonderful world of professional wrestling. We are looking for stories that successfully combine the blood, sweat and tears of pro-wrestling with the macabre majesty of the horror genre. WHAT WE WANT Professional wrestling must, at the very least, provide the backdrop to the stories and, ideally, be an integral part of the narrative. We want to see the pageantry of sports entertainment, the no-nonsense appeal of old-school wrasslers, dazzling luchadores, hard-hitting puroresu and carnys stiffing the ever-loving crap out of boozed-up spectators in a post-War county fair. To this we want you to add suitably dark layers of horror and the macabre that make the reader realise that an unprotected chairshot is the least of a man’s worries. WHAT WE DON’T WANT It goes without saying that we do not want fan fiction. We have no desire to raise the ire of WWE’s legal department (nor that of any other existing promotion), any story that includes real wrestlers will be dismissed out of hand. Similarly, any storylines that are a bit too close to an existing pro-wrestling angle will be a big no-no. Use your imagination and come up with something new and exciting, not...

What if Snow White was an ass-kicking punk goth grrl with her entourage of seven zombie minions? Classic fairy tales never die…and this Halloween, you’re going to help them rise from the grave. For our 2012 Halloween Ever Afters, Entangled Publishing wants your fairy tale retellings with an undead twist. Even in the land of the dead, survivors find love – and sometimes it’s a little easier with the dating pool narrowed down to anyone with a pulse. So take Alice on a trip down the rabbit hole into zombieland. Reinvent Beauty as a badass biker babe on the run from an ex-boyfriend turned into a flesh-eating Beast. Taking Submissions: House of Horrors
Deadline: July 31st Payment: % of profits from book sales CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: HOUSE OF HORRORS In the dark of night, a stealthy tread creeps down the empty hallway, creaking the floorboards. Drawing near your bedroom. Filling your thoughts with a thousand images of sunken-eyed horrors and hollow, gaping mouths of disjointed teeth, pallid hands reaching for you, death-whitened bodies turned translucent and cold. Closer. Closer. Closer, until your heart takes a single drunken stumble and then stops, caught in the frozen grip of terror. You stare at the black maw of the open door. It’s coming. Coming for you. It’s… …your sexy boyfriend shuffling back from a midnight kitchen raid, with crumbs on his chin and nothing else on but a sleepy smile. But pretty boy might want to put on some pants – because you aren’t alone in the house, and the dead are coming out to play. Entangled Publishing seeks Flirts with a haunting theme for our 2012 Halloween releases. We’re looking for chilling stories of ghosts, poltergeists, possession, haunted locations, ghost hunters, exorcisms – and maybe even love from beyond the grave. While romance is essential to the story, what we’re really looking for is that thrilling edge of fear to add spice to the romantic tension building between our H/H. Submissions must: Be 10,000 to 15,000 words in length. Contain strong romantic elements. Involve supernatural events at a haunted location. We’re looking more for ghost stories than standard paranormal romance with supernatural elements. More Paranormal Activity or House on Haunted Hill, less Underworld. Avoid excessive gore. We’d like chilling tales with strong romance, but nothing that would make our gorge rise. Scare us, thrill us, but let us keep our lunches firmly where they belong. All heat levels will be accepted, but erotic elements must...

Taking Submissions: D.O.A. II: Extreme Horror Collection
Taking Submissions: D.O.A. II: Extreme Horror Collection
Deadline: August 1st 2012 Payment: 1 cent a word plus a contributors copy You were warned…but you just didn’t listen! So after the horrific success of D.O.A., we have decided to please the masses by releasing a second volume. Volume II will be a more disturbing anthology (if that’s even possible), unsuitable for the easily offended, disgusted, or those prone to vomiting. We want stories, 750 – 5,000 words, that push the limits. The stranger and gorier the better. If you read the first installment, than you know that no subject is too taboo. However, we’re looking for you to exploit a lesser know taboo. Keep in mind that we are not simply looking for torture or scenes of gratuitous violence lacking a point or direction. Blood and guts only work if there is a great story and creative twists to back it up. Imagine that the band Cannibal Corpse got together with Richard Matheson and penned a story. The result would be D.O.A. Think Edward Lee, think Bizarro, think…well, you get the picture. So if you ever had a story idea that you felt was too extreme or offensive for a sane publisher, send it our way. We want your worst! Accepted stories will be paid a rate of 1 cent a word plus a contributors copy. Stories will be accepted from May 1, 2012 until August 1, 2012. We will not make final selections until the end of the submission period. Please do not query about the status of your submission until September 1, 2012. Send submissions to [email protected]. Subject should read: “D.O.A. II: story title/author last name”
