Author: Willow Croft

The Spooky Six with Willow Croft, Jen, and Jen’s Feline Daughter, Nicki.

For this interview, I’m hosting a special tea for not only writer/artist Jen of MoronicArts, but their “feline daughter” Nicki as well. And, yes, as a cat lover myself, I’ve made a special catnip tea brew for my additional guest!

Jen (they/them/theirs) is a gothic weirdo who makes up stories about fake people doing stupid things, and posts them to their blog called MoronicArts. Sometimes Jen draws strange pictures. Size matters; over 400 of these short and even shorter stories might be found at MoronicArts.com. Maybe. Jen spent five years of Hell living in Illinois before they moved back to Utica “Steamed Hams” New York where they live in a quiet neighborhood along with feline daughter Nicki.

Cultivating Winter Magic for Writers

No matter which hemisphere you’re in, climate change is definitely disrupting the seasonal shifts. Winter may have already arrived full force where you live, or you may be watching the overcast skies in hopes of enough inclement weather to warrant a snow day (and a day off work!).

Even though it may seem like Autumn is reluctant to let go of its rule, you can still channel the spirit of the season, and use it to lure your wintery muse out from its dark refuge.

Besides, the past few years have been chaotic and stressful on their own, so instead of wearing yourself out further by going all out for the holidays, perhaps consider a more simple and quiet celebration.

December 2022 Horoscopes: By the Light of the Flickering…FLIR!

While many this time of year (well, depending on what hemisphere you’re in) may be dreaming of a tropical vacation, I’ve always wanted to experience a magical “Winter Wonderland” getaway! But it wouldn’t be a set of Horror Tree horoscopes if I didn’t add in some charmingly haunted locales to visit over the holidays. Read on to find out where you’ll seek out the spirits during this festive season!

Disclaimer: As always, these horoscopes are mock horoscopes and are meant for entertainment purposes only. I can’t account for the ghosts you’ll encounter, though!

The Infamous Premiere of the “Spooky Six with Willow Croft”!

Welcome to the debut of Willow Croft’s “Spooky Six” author interviews! Kicking off the premiere is Victoria Audley! Come into the parlor, have a cup of tea, and get cozy while we delve into all things spooky!

Victoria Audley is a folklorist, museum educator, and ghost escaped from a gothic novel, currently haunting the northern English seaside. In her spare time, she befriends the local crows and plays too much D&D. You can find her at https://bio.link/vcaudley, and her books on Ko-fi and Blurb.

December 2022: Tarot Cards for Creative Inspiration

Can you believe that it’s been almost two years since I started doing these tarot card readings for you all at Horror Tree?

Cheers! *clink*

In celebration, I’ve done a special six-point “lucky star” tarot spread to close out the year!

(I used the Unicorn Tarot by Suzanne Star and Liz Hilton for this reading.)

I would also like to give a big thank you to Stuart Conover and the rest of the Horror Tree team for supporting all of us writers/creatives! Give it up for the totally tubular HT!

November 2022: Tarot Cards for Writing Inspiration

Winter is coming (well, in this geographical region, anyway), which some may associate with things ending, but it may feel like new beginnings are appearing on the horizon.

(There’s definitely a murky period between now and what’s to come, however. Some may feel a little irritable and low in energy during this interlude.)

Speaking of new, I took part in this study thingamajig, and I got a gift card to the Big A! So I used it on a new tarot deck for these readings.

The deck is called, fittingly, the Wild Unknown (the pocket version) by Kim Krans.

November 2022 Horoscopes: Travelling Through Time . . . and Plagues!

Let’s all hit the road* this November . . . in a time machine! If you’re feeling as restless as I am, and you’re curious to find out where you’ll have the vacation of a lifetime, check out the horoscopes below!

(*I hardly need to include that key quote from a certain wild-haired cinematic scientist, do I?)

Disclaimer: As always, these horoscopes are mock horoscopes and are meant for entertainment purposes only. (However, if you really do have a time travel machine, don’t forget to invite me! I won’t tell anyone, I promise!) Also, I probably took some creative liberties with actual history, so while I always rely on my research and knowledge, if you’re looking for historical truth with a capital T (which is always debatable, either way), I’d suggest finding sources that aren’t fiction-based horoscopes. Just sayin’!

October 2022 Horoscopes: Hunting under the Blood Moon

October is the epitome of all things spooky and terrifying. It’s the month where the fog drifts over the full moon (known as the Hunter’s Moon, the Harvest Moon, or the Blood Moon). In celebration of this autumn moon, this month’s horoscopes will change into something more…beastly. Read on to uncover which illustrious werewolf you’ll transform into during this month, and don’t forget to join me for an afterhours howl at the moon to celebrate Furry Book Month!
