Taking Submissions: Soul Reflections
Deadline: April 15th 2012 Payment: ¼ cent a word upon publication Soul Reflections SUBMISSION DEADLINE: April 15, 2012 Midnight (EST) Edited by Mark Taylor and Jessica A. Weiss WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR: They say that the mirror reflects the soul, the Egyptians believed that the shadow held great power and could move at great speeds, and Narcissus believed that his reflection in water was a vision of his own sister - a woman of unsurpassed beauty. Sometimes a reflection shows us what we want to see, other times it shows us the horrors of what we don't. We are looking for dark fantasy/horror stories revealing the truth behind the reflections, and most certainly not limited to those mentioned. WHAT WE ARE NOT LOOKING FOR: Slash and hack, blood and gore for their own sake. Graphic rape, torture, child molestation, and animal torture have their place, but not here. No erotica or adult themes. We prefer stories written in the third person—will consider first person if you knock our socks off. Looking for short stories in the 3,500- 6,000 word range, but will consider stories slightly over 6,000 words. Lower word count is FIRM. Payment is ¼ cent a word upon publication. Email submissions to: [email protected] Please put SUBMISSION, followed by the title of the story, and word count, in the subject line of your email.
Taking Submissions: Nonproliferation
Deadline: April 16th 2012 Payment: $3.00 and royalties Rymfire Sci-Fi (a new imprint of Rymfire Books) is proud to announce out latest project… Nonproliferation anthology “The Cold War is 20 years gone. Yet the looming omen of the End of Days still haunts us. The notion that Russia and America will obliterate us all with nuclear weapons seems unlikely. So how will the world end? And what will people do to survive it? Would the limited supply of copper lead to a massive communications breakdown? Would the continued genetic manipulation of crops lead to widespread crop failures? You picture the Apocalypse and write us a story in under 7500 words. Stories that will not impress us: Zombies, Dark Tower rewrites, or anything from the Twighlight Zone. They may be great, but they’re already done. Things that will grab our attention: stories with a conscience, stories that push the envelope with a new idea, and works that go beyond the typical wasteland.” We are also proud to have Boone Dryden back in the fold as well! Boone previously worked with me at Carnifex Press and this anthology is his baby and his first of what I hope are many projects! ALL submissions will go to Boone Dryden ONLY and not the normal Rymfire Books e-mail address… Editor: Boone Dryden [email protected] Reading period will be March 1st – April 16th 2012 Length and submission… We are looking for tales in the 2,500-7,500 word range. Nothing more, nothing less. We will return (unread) anything not within these guidelines. You can submit a story as either an attachment to the e-mail address in Word (NOT docx) or in the body of an e-mail. We do NOT accept snail mail. Please put “Sci Fi Anthology” in the subject of the e-mail and give a word...

Taking Submissions: Dieselpunk
Dieselpunk Deadline: April 30th, 2012 Payment: 3% of Revenue from both ebook and print edition sales. Twit Publishing is going far afield with this one and hoping to help establish a new genre. We've already covered the older genres from the 1920’s to 1950’s pulps with Twit Publishing Presents: PULP! anthologies, and are looking at a young genre that re-examines the 20s, 30s, 40s, and early 50s: Dieselpunk. What is Dieselpunk? Dieselpunk is a re-imagining of the diesel-era (the post-World War I era to the early 1950s). It's gangsters, bootleggers, swing, Mexican revolutionaries, Dillinger and Bonnie and Clyde, U-Boats, the Depression, the end of the Wild West, Bolshevik agents, greasers, zeppelins, jazz, art-deco, roadsters, hobos (anything that fits into this era of time along with cross-genres), and the Red Scare. It is the beginning of mechanization of the military and the beginning of the mechanization of the factory. We’re looking for over-the-top storylines that fit into this genre. Horror, action, detective, crime, and even fantasy can be fit into this genre. Think steam-punk, but with petroleum-fueled engines. Be creative! Compensation: 3% of Revenue from both ebook and print edition sales. Submission Guidelines All short stories must meet the minimum requirements of 4000 words, and be a maximum of 9000 words in length. All content submitted to Twit Publishing for PULP! anthologies must be solely owned by the creator. Additionally, all content must be original. Stories must be submitted by the author(s), and not a 3rd party. Please submit as a .DOC or .RTF file. Please send a short author's bio along with any submission. Do not send any story pitches or ideas. **They will be deleted without being read**. **Submissions from authors in the United States only** Email submissions to: [email protected] Subject line of email should read as the author's...
Taking Submissions: Darkly Yours
Deadline: April 30th 2012 Payment: Contributor's Copy Hi all, We are now open to submissions for a brand new project: an anthology of short stories called "Darkly Yours". This time we are going to publish it in English, even though we are a Spanish cultural association (a humble one, by the way). Later, we would translate the texts into Spanish and publish the book in that language. "Darkly Yours" will be about love and darkness, from no matter what point of view (the darker the better, though). Relationships taken from a devious angle, so to speak. Your story can be horror, dark fantasy, even SF, on the condition that love is essential to the plot and it has a twist to the dark and sinister. "Darkly Yours" will be the first English horror anthology published in Spain ever! It will feature short stories from both English & Spanish-speaking writers. We are a non-profit cultural association called Tusitala Ediciones, devoted to this kind of risky & quixotic projects since 2003. We already published a French version of our Spanish mag SABLE, and an Italian SF/horror anthology a few years ago. Submissions: Wordcount: 3000-8000 words. Times 12, single spaced. RTF format. NOT .docx, please. The stories must be completely unpublished, not having appeared either in print or in whatsoever online form (ebook, blogs...) Contact data included at the same file. Deadline to send texts: end of April 2012. The authors selected will receive a free copy of the English book. Sincerely, Fermín Moreno - Spain Tusitala Ediciones http://tusitalaediciones.blogspot.com/ info_sable(at)wanadoo.es

Taking Submissions: Return of the Dead Men (and Women) Walking
Deadline: May 1, 2012. Payment: 1 cent/word plus a copy of the print book when it is available To all authors: We have dozens of projects going on at any given time. These guidelines are designed to help us facilitate processing your submission as quickly as possible. Please make sure you read and follow all guidelines. Failure to follow the submission guidelines may result in your submission getting lost or accidentally deleted. Project Title: Return of the Dead Men (and Women) Walking Project Scope: For purposes of this anthology, we are limiting consideration to those stories that feature corporeal undead. These include, but are not limited to, ghouls, liches, mummies, revenants, vampires, wights, and of course zombies. We are not interested in stories featuring incorporeal undead such as ghosts and poltergeists. Genre Considerations: Despite the subject matter, stories need not be firmly rooted in the horror genre to be considered. We will consider a wide range of stories, including fantasy, weird west, steampunk, post-apocalyptic, urban fantasy, and others. This anthology will target adult readers, and therefore young adult stories will not be considered. We will also not consider paranormal romances or erotica. General Guidelines: Our normal general submission guidelines apply. We strongly encourage authors to read our general guidelines first before submitting to this anthology. In particular, we judge both first person and present tense narratives much more critically than we do other works. We will consider such stories and have published them in the past, but they must truly be exceptional for us to publish such styles. When submitting stories for this project, you must use the subject line DEAD MEN STORY SUBMISSION. Submit stories as attachments as per the instructions of our general guidelines. Do not submit bios or a list of publishing credits with your submission, as...
