Taking Submissions: Embers of Corsari

Deadline: August 1st, 2022
Payment: Royalties
Theme: High fantasy set in a new world (bible available).

“Embers of Corsari”. An anthology set in A new world that will be available for other authors to dabble in. Yes, there’s a world bible you’ll have to look over and abide by. Genre is high fantasy.

Submission call: Enter a world of heroes, villains, monsters, and gods. Where magic is as common as the air you breathe. I’m looking for stories about the beginnings of heroes or villains. Or even their ends. The start of wars… or perhaps the end where little is left but devastation and the embers of hope. Fiery-tempered warriors or Red-headed temptresses. Or perhaps even Pyromaniacs. Everything begins with a burning ember: may it be hope or hate, love or revenge.

Taking Submissions: Archive of the Odd Volume 2 (Early Listing)

Submission Window: April 15th to June 15th, 2022
Payment: $0.01/word for short stories chosen for the zine, and an even split of 50% of the royalties after the fact
Theme: Monsters

Archive of the Odd, the magazine of analog and found-document horror, returns for a second issue with the theme of “monsters”! We’ll be open April 15-June 15 for submissions, with the intent to publish August 15. If you submit to us last window (thank you!), you’ll probably be good just looking at the bolded pieces, as those have changed.

First of all, all submissions must relate to the theme of monsters and also be non-traditional prose. Not sure what we’re talking about? The best way will be to look at the stories on our website, or get the first issue to see the full zine treatment (in fact, if you email us or DM us on Twitter we’ll give you a coupon code for being a savvy author… just saying). Alternately, think about all the things you read on a daily basis that aren’t fiction. Newspapers? Emails? Product support guides? …Submissions calls?

Taking Submissions: It Came From the Trailer Park: Volume 2

(Cover for Volume 1)

Deadline: July 1st, 2022
Payment: Royalties
Theme: Horror Comedy / Creature Feature

After the success of the first Trailer Park anthology, we’ve decided to bring it back next year for another go.

Stories should be original creature feature, horror-comedy with the same feel as The Evil Dead, Army of Darkness, Shaun of the Dead, or Tucker and Dale vs. Evil. And of course, our heroes winning the day in all of their redneck glory.

Taking Submissions: Listen: The Sound of Fear

Deadline: March 31st, 2022
Payment: “Split proceeds among all contributing authors.”
Theme: A gothic horror story collection centered around sound
Note: Open to all trans and nonbinary authors

LISTEN: The Sound of Fear

Things that go bump in the night, real or imagined; that certain song or sound that threatens madness; the warnings we heed…or don’t heed…

NineStar Press is seeking submissions to LISTEN, a gothic horror story collection centered around sound, featuring trans and nonbinary authors from our community. While we want a terrifying tale, it must have gothic elements. Rather than relying on gore for scares, give us the fear that lives within.

Anthology theme: terrifying tales with gothic elements with “sound” as an important detail

Examples of story themes you might include (but are not limited to): psychological fear, doomed romance, family curses, homes haunted either by actual ghosts or ghosts of the past, your other great idea!

Taking Submissions: Mermaidens

Deadline: March 1st, 2022
Payment: Royalties
Theme: Stories about mermaids

The thing about mermaids is they have a tail problem.

It seems they either want to get rid of their tail so they can walk on land,

or they want to get their tail back, having somehow lost it so they could be on land.

Or, they fell in love with someone who doesn’t have a tail…

It never seems to end. All we know for sure, is that it’s a problem.

Submission dates January 15, 2022 to March 1, 2022
