The Glass Woman Prize - Ghost Story Contest Contest - Female Authors Only Deadline: November 18th, 2011 Payment: $100 to the winner An EXTRAORDINARY call for ghost stories with November 18, 2011 DEADline: An anonymous flesh and blood patron of the arts has offered a $100 prize for a ghost story written by a woman. Here is what she writes: Ghosts are with us all year round and in this season of mists they call for particular attention. I leave the definition of “ghost story” up to the author and look forward to the many embodiments and disembodiments of this theme. Preferred length 1000 to 3000 words, but stories of any length may be submitted. Unlike the current restricted submissions for the regular Glass Woman Prize, this ghost story prize call for submissions is open to all women writing in English. Lauren noted that “A pony is better than a unicorn because he doesn’t know how cute he is! Unicorns are all glitter and sass. Very pompous.” Fine. No problem. But then she wrote, “I think we have room for at least 500 more pony stories in the f&sf genre.” And anyone who has read Kij Johnson’s Nebula winning short story “Ponies” at Tor knows this to be true. The files sat in a secure location, collecting dust. Only The President and the Vice President, along with a handful of others, actually know of its existence. Now, after decades sitting in silence, at mankind’s darkest hour, the files are once again being re-opened and now man must face it’s ultimate destiny – Death or Survival. Alter Press is seeking previously unpublished stories involving the extinction of mankind. The tales can be as wild and unpredictable as you desire, happy ending or not, likeable characters or out right assholes. What I am NOT looking for is Zombies, Vampires, Were-wolves etc… Be ORIGINAL.
