Taking Submissions: Unlikely Friends
Deadline: December 15th 2012 Payment: Free ebook release - Exposure Only Hello, our first planned anthology revolves around the theme of unlikely friends, with the genre touching on horror/suspense/supernatural. That is all. I really don’t want to restricting your interpretation by suggesting what this could be. The crazier the better. It will be a free download, so what you get out of this is exposure and hopefully a new radical story to add to your portfolio. What do we get out of this? Discovering the talent that people have. Seriously, as much as we love reading books from the shops, there are so many people that have a story waiting to be written and we both love reading. It would just be nice to see someone else’s style for a change. Do you think you have what it take? So in terms of free download, we’ll be looking into where we could send this for people to download. Amazon kindle, google play etc. Maybe even as a pdf on here. So I suppose we should have some rules: Word count can be between 500 – 3000 words. Though we won’t be too strict on this, as long as your story justifies it’s length. Stick to the theme Please read over your work for spelling/grammar. Again for this one we won’t be too harsh as long as we can still easily make sense of it, when there is a great story to be told we can turn a blind eye to it, although we will have to correct mistakes before publishing. All work must be your own, it is your responsibility to make sure you have permission to send us your work if it has previously been published. You will hold all rights still, and you have permission to send it...

Taking Submissions: Big Damn Heroines
Deadline: December 28, 2012 Payment: Contributors will also be given 2 print copies of the anthology, one PDF copy of the anthology, and one PDF copy of their single release short story. Big Damn Heroines is a celebration of the plus-sized woman. Specifically, the plus-sized woman kicking ass. The media perception of the heroine is invariably thin, but women come in all shapes and sizes. This anthology aims to show that bigger women can be more than comic relief or the dumpy best friend. They can be a force to be reckoned with all on their own. And if they happen to find Mr./Ms. Right—or Mr./Ms. Right Now—along the way, that's just a bonus. We're looking for stories starring plus-sized heroines. Genre can be fantasy, urban fantasy, sci-fi, ____punk (steam-, diesel-, cyber-, etc), paranormal, or horror. The heroine must overcome some challenge, enemy, or obstacle by her own means, whether that be physical ability, mental acuity, or cunning guile. Some erotic content is required, but a well-plotted tale with a satisfying ending is paramount. Unless otherwise specified in the particular call, anthology submissions are subject to the following guidelines: Submissions must be between 10,000 and 20,000 words. All submissions will be edited, but this is no excuse to send in a first draft. Stories should be as polished as possible before being submitted. Submissions must have either a core romantic plot or a reasonable amount of erotic content. Genre, pairing, and/or other restrictions may apply—read the anthology call closely before submitting! All works submitted to Storm Moon Press must be unreleased works. We are only interested in acquiring exclusive first English language rights. This means if a work has been self-published, published by a subsidy press, on a website, journal, or other public forum, those rights have already been used,...
Taking Submissions: Horror-tica
Deadline: December 30th 2012 Payment: All contributors are will be paid £3.00 for every 150 copies of their respective anthology sold. This payment is cumulative, meaning that, if a given anthology sells 300 copies, each contributor will receive £6.00, if it sells 450 copies, each contributor will receive £9.00 and so on. This applies to all sales of the anthology, in every format. Royalties will be payable for the first two years of the book’s existence. Cruentus Libri Press is pleased to announce its forthcoming anthology, now open for submission. Horror-tica is an anthology for stories that combine horror and erotica into a seamless whole – voluptuous vampires, sensual succubi, well-hung werewolves or any other combination of blood and lust that comes into the dark and sordid back alleys of your mind. WHAT WE WANT Stories of evil and eroticism. We run a broadminded church here at Cruentus Libri Press, so whatever you particular little kink of pecadillo might be, it will find a home here, so long as it involves horror in equal measure to horniness. The erotic elements must be integral to the story – don’t just send us a normal tale with a graphic sex scene shoehorned into the narrative; weave it into the plot, make it the focus of the story. We want tales that are character and story driven rather than just heavy-panting descriptions of sexual acts. WHAT WE DON’T WANT Pedophilia, lolicon, child abuse…whatever term you use to describe it, underage sex is a HUGE no-no and any stories involving such will be rejected without further comment. Beyond that, we’re not bothered – it is highly unlikely that your particular fetish will shock us. As long as it’s chained and bound to a strong story, we’ll give it a chance. This is a horror...

And you are divided into sections and bound between stations. And they have sign-boards whereon is written women, or murder, or moon. And then that is the world. You are a railway -rumbled over, cried over -you are the track -on you everything happens and makes you rustblind and silverbright. You are human, your brain giraffe-lonely somewhere above on your endless neck. And no one quite knows your heart." -Wolfgang Borchert (1921-1947), from Railways by day and by night, translated by David Porter Language: English Closing Date: 31 December 2012 Open to: Everyone, anywhere, the wider the better. Submissions to: [email protected] I hereby make confession under oath that I, David Rix of Eibonvale Press, am a train addict. I know too well the slightly puzzled look that comes into people’s eyes when I start getting too enthusiastic on that subject, but hey, just think about this a moment! Can you think of a better way to watch the world go past? Relaxed in a window seat as you pull slowly out of the city, then start flying through the countryside. It is a time of enforced shut-down, in spite of this age of laptops and wireless internet. It is almost meditational – a time of peace and solitude when nothing should be demanded of you – ideally one of the few times of quiet in our hectic modern lives. Trains occupy a special place in the human psyche, the twin threads of the rails forging...

Taking Submissions: Morpheus Tales: The Apocalypse Special Issue
Deadline: December 31st 2012 Payment: It’s 2012 - the year our world is supposed to end. Supposedly, on December 21st, we will cease to exist. But how is it going to happen? Fire? Flood? Earthquakes? Or something manmade, such as an unstoppable virus or a nuclear explosion? You tell us. Morpheus Tales is looking for short stories of how the human race is going to die out. Use your imagination - it can be as realistic (fire, for instance) or as far-fetched (maybe zombies?) as you’d like. Is it quick and painless or slow and excruciating? Make us a little nervous that maybe, just maybe, your scenario is imminent. We know zombies are the in thing right now - but we don’t want to dig through tons of zombie stories. Try to come up with something unique, something that will stand out in the crowd. We want to be freaked out and blown away by the methods you choose to wipe out the Earth. What we DON’T want - vampires, werewolves, science fiction, fantasy, sword and sorcery, biopunk. Otherwise, regular Morpheus Tales guidelines apply - no simultaneous submissions, standard manuscript format, only high-quality character- or plot-driven stories from 1,500 to 3,000 words. Reprints will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Deadline for submissions will be December 31, 2012. Please put Apocalypse Special Issue Submission in the subject of your email and send to: [email protected] Other than that, all regular Morpheus Tales submission guidelines apply: no simultaneous submissions, standard manuscript format, only high quality character- or plot-driven stories of no more than 3,000 words.
