Taking Submissions: MALICE…The desire to do evil.
Deadline: May 29th, 2014 Payment: Exposure and Royalties Flash fiction, Poetry, Short Stories (1,000 – 6,000 words) Re-prints will also be considered but we prefer something fresh. A thin line can sometimes be drawn between a deep seeded need for vengeance and the sheer enjoyment malicious souls reap from the suffering they cause others. For this anthology, submerse yourself in the evils of a blackened soul, a deranged mind, or a wounded heart; examine the threshold that is morality. Develop a character that was born a bad seed, or create the scenario that defined them. Will their actions be justified, or vilified? Delve deep into your imagination to deliver twisted tales from all avenues of horror. Here’s the catch—these stories must incorporate a YA as a main character, and must be appropriate for the YA audience. (Think TV-14) They can be told from any vantage point, and can be first or third person. Don’t be afraid to walk down the fiery road to Hell, or limit yourself to any particular time period. Post-apocalyptic scenarios and flashbacks are always clever writing tools to utilize. After all, who doesn’t love a good villain… Dark fairy tales, bizarre, horror, surrealism, dark science-fiction and steam punk are all cool here. Remember that this publication is for a YA audience. Submission guidelines: Deadline for submissions – May 29th, 2014 – or until full. Word Count: 1,000 – 6,000 words. Please submit your manuscript as a *.rtf, *.doc or *.docx file (all other formats will automatically be rejected. Contact me prior to submitting if this presents an issue for you.) Font and formatting: Please submit in Times New Roman, 12 point font; single line spacing. Please format the document to 1st line indentation of 1″. The page margin should be set to .1″ on all sides....
Taking Submissions: Cursed Curiosities
Deadline: May 29th, 2014 Payment: Exposure and Royalties Flash fiction, Poetry, Short Stories (2,000 – 5,000 words) Re-prints will also be considered. I’ve always been intrigued by the ‘little cursed shop’ niche in horror. An odd sort of proprietor, hunched and haggard, vaguely describes his bizarre antiquities in riddles. Inevitably patrons buy the cursed objects and suffer consequences in any number of ways – depending on said purchase. Submission guidelines: Deadline for submissions – May 29th, 2014 – or until full. Word Count: 2,000 – 5,000 words. The page margin should be set to .1″ on all sides. No headers, footers or page numbers. Please check grammar. Upon acceptance into the anthology, you agree that Horrified Press holds exclusive publishing rights for six months from the date of publication; after that date has passed, all intellectual property rights revert to the author with the proviso that Horrified Press retains distribution rights in the format of the contracted anthology. This title will be available as an e-book and trade quality paperback. Brian Barnett will be presiding over this anthology. Taking Submissions: Out of Phase: Tales of Sci-Fi Horror
Deadline: May 31st, 2014 Payment: An eBook copy will be sent to all contributors and up to 5 paperback copies per author will be available to purchase at cost plus shipping. 50% of the royalties will be distributed between all contributors. Very simply, for this collection of short stories, we are looking for Science Fiction Horror. We don’t care if that means mutation, creation, invention, machinery gone awry, or space and or time travel. But it must be Science Fiction, and it must be Horror Fiction. What we specifically do not want are Other World/Fantasy stories – these will be rejected. If you choose to take a factual approach to your Sci-Fi Horror, we ask that you exercise constraint and not bore us or the reader with unneeded details. By all means, include necessary details, but delivering a slew of facts in order will not translate to an intriguing read. Most likely, these stories will be rejected as well. Our review team is highly scientifically minded, so vet your facts, and make sure they are accurate. False data based too closely on truth that lacks an imaginary spin will also earn you a rejection. Be creative, imaginative, and dead-on-the-money accurate on this one. It’s our first venture into the Sci-Fi realm, and we won’t be accepting anything that lacks genuine kick! Submission Deadline: May 31, 2014 Word Count minimum: 4,000 words – nothing less will be reviewed; no reprints considered. Please submit your manuscript as a *.doc or *.docx file (all other formats will automatically be rejected. Contact us prior to submitting if this presents an issue for you.) Font and formatting: Please submit in Times New Roman, 12 point font; single line spacing with a 0 point definition above and below each line. Please format the document to 1st...
Taking Submissions: Tales of Mystery, Suspense & Terror
Deadline: May 31st, 2014 Payment: £5 The Victorian era was the heyday of the ghost-story and it has been said that a good Victorian host would place a copy of work by Sheridan Le Fanu by their guest’s bedside for the hours after midnight. So taking inspiration from gothic fiction and the rich legacy of 19th century ghost stories, we aim to celebrate the supernatural through a new collection of tales of mystery, suspense and terror! 19th Century ghost stories were the extension of Gothic fiction pioneered by Horace Walpole and Ann Radcliffe, with M.R. James and Sheridan Le Fanu representing the best known masters of this genre. Thus we hope to elicit narratives inspired by the 19th century ghost story. Tales that lure unsuspecting readers in through mood and setting, stories to be savoured through accounts which focus on suspense rather than gore, and fictions which leave readers to the mercy of their imaginations. We want the type of stories which are so compelling you’ll wish you had a second chance to read them for the first time! We are especially interested in stories that are truly unique in character, whether written from less common points of view or because of the sustained chilling disquiet which they instil in the reader. Most of all, we want to produce a collection filled with stories we are as excited to read as we are to share. When you wish you’d waited for sunrise to put words to paper, that’s the story that we want! Sleep uneasy prospective authors, we eagerly await your submissions; may your night terrors give you inspiration. A project page has been set up for this anthology. Click here to visit. Taking Submissions: Life of the Dead
Deadline: May 31st, 2014 Payment: contributors will be offered a 2% royalty on sales of the anthology. Life of the Dead A Science-Fictional Look at Zombies, Ghouls, Ghosts, and the Deadly Departed. (DEADLINE SET: May 31, 2014. ~Submit Today!) Tales of undead terror have been woven into the fabric of modern society, and amidst the blood and gore lie hidden questions: What motivates these reanimated cadavers to do what they do? What is the scientific rationale behind their existence? Why do they always seem so hungry, and seek the flesh of the living? All very scientific queries begging for answers. Life of the Dead seeks to answer these questions, and more. Explore the lesser-told story of zombies and other undead creatures. Go beyond the horror and discover the true nature of these creatures from beyond the grave! If you wish to submit a story to this fine anthology, please adhere to the following guidelines: 1: Format: Stories should be formatted in either Times New Roman (preferred) or Courier New, and single-spaced. Please, do not add an extra space between paragraphs. A lot of writers separate their paragraphs into blocks these days, like they're writing a blog post. Please don't submit that way. 2: Be Original: With this anthology, we're after something different, beyond your typical tale of terror and gore. Of course, heart-pounding suspense and awful fright is very welcome, but also try to incorporate a new/unique twist to the story. 3: Word Length: 1,500+ words. No Flash Fiction for this one, but anything else will be considered, up to and including Novella-length. While we will entertain reprints, we give preference to fresh, previously-unpublished stories. 4: No Simultaneous Submissions. It is most disappointing to read the greatest story and accept it, only to find out that some other editor has...
