Taking Submissions: Ancient Wonders

Deadline: June 30th 2012 Payment: Contributor's copy and £10.00 The Alchemy Press is seeking submissions for THE ALCHEMY PRESS BOOK OF ANCIENT WONDERS edited by Jan Edwards and Jenny Barber. Standing stones, burial mounds, ruined castles or sunken settlements, the ancient sites that litter our landscapes have a mysterious appeal which cannot be denied. Think myth come to life; old folktales updated; the consequences of tomb raiding; hidden guardians and secret civilisations; from archaeology to tourism; mysticism and myth; folklore to the fantastical. Take us on a journey around the esoteric and enigmatic places that cannot fail to fire the imagination. Intrigue us, thrill us, make us wonder about the where, the what and the who. We are interested in fantasy, sf, weird and horror tales of all kinds. (No erotica, romance or poetry.) THE ALCHEMY PRESS BOOK OF ANCIENT WONDERS will be a paperback to be published in September 2012, to be followed by an eBook edition. Successful contributors will receive a copy of the book and a £10.00 advance against royalties on publication. We are after original fiction; but reprints will be considered if they are exceptional. No simultaneous or multiple submissions. We will only accept electronic submissions as email attachments in standard MS format, .rtf, .doc or .docx. Any submissions included in the body of the email will be rejected unread. The subject line should take the form “Title/author’s name” (i.e. The Hobbit/ JRR Tolkien). Contributions must be in the range of 2,000-6,000 words firm, with full contact details on the front page. The submission period runs from April 1st to June 30th 2012. Taking Submissions: After Death

Deadline: June 30th 2012 Payment: One cent per word and one contributor copy, payable upon publication (negotiated rates for established authors). OPEN SUBMISSIONS - New Fiction Anthology: AFTER DEATH… NOW ACCEPTING SUBMISSIONS! New Fiction Anthology: AFTER DEATH… Title: After Death… Edited by: Eric J. Guignard Publisher: Dark Moon Books http://www.darkmoonbooks.com/ Submissions Due: June 30, 2012 Release Date: Spring, 2013 Send submissions and questions to: [email protected] Death. Who has not considered their own mortality and wondered at what awaits, once our frail human shell expires? What occurs after the heart stops beating, after the last breath is drawn, after life as we know it terminates? Each person has their own beliefs, whether based on science, a traditional religion, or perhaps dark, personal experimentation. Do we transcend to another dimension or celestial world? Does our spirit remain while the body rots? Are we given another opportunity to do it all over again? Can we die again in the afterlife? Do we find ways to cheat death and maintain a semblance of living after the mortician declares, D.O.A.? Do we all just end up in a cosmic purée, drunk by an Elvis Presley overlord? I am looking for stories of Horror, Dark, and Speculative Fiction, including all associated sub-genres (NO high-fantasy and limited on hard science fiction) that explore this theme: What may occur to someone AFTER they have died. Yes, this anthology will probably have stories involving demons and angels. Yes, this anthology will probably have stories of people's ghosts coming back to haunt the earth. Yes, this anthology will probably have stories of people reanimating into zombies or vampires or other traditional creatures of the night. However, these "obvious" tales will take a back seat to ideas that are much more disturbing or wildly imaginative. Think of reincarnation into another body...

It could be the darkness inside a mind, or inside a ping-pong ball; within a universe or within an atom. Taking Submissions: The End Was Not the End: Post-Apocalyptic Fantasy Tales

Deadline: July 1, 2012 Payment: A royalty pool will be generated on print and eBook sales, at a rate of 10% royalties for print, and a rate of 50% royalties for eBooks, with each included story having an equal share of the royalty pool. Royalty statements and payments will be made bi-annually. All included authors will receive a complimentary trade paperback copy of the anthology. Seventh Star Press is proud to announce a call for submissions for an exciting new anthology to be edited by Joshua Leet, entitled The End Was Not the End: Post-Apocalyptic Fantasy Tales. The stories can be up to 10,000 words in length, and must be set within a setting ranging between ancient worlds, like the Sword and Sorcery Hyborean Age of Robert E. Howard, to medieval settings like those found in many epic fantasy series. Timed appropriately for 2012, the anthology will focus on the aftermath of an apocalypse. The stories can have any style or feature any Earth culture-inspired background, such as the more commonly encountered european-based knights and wizards, to Viking sagas, Russian folklore, Chinese wuxia, Japanese samurai, and Native American environments, just to name a few. The apocalypse itself can be whatever suits the writer, be it magical catastrophe, plague, monster horde, the death of gods, etc. It can include modern catastrophes that precipitated regression in technological level to a medieval or ancient world type level. The stories should have a serious overall tone, and can range from action-driven to tales with a darker edge. Joshua is currently serving as the editor for Sela, the forthcoming second book in the Leland Dragon Series by Jackie Gamber, as well as the newest Gorias La Gaul adventure from Steven Shrewsbury, titled Overkill. Joshua is not only an editor, but is also an author, whose...

Taking Submissions: The Year

Deadline: July 1st 2012 Payment: £10 and contributor's copy Screaming Dreams and Noose & Gibbet are proud to announce a joint project, simply called ‘THE YEAR’. It will be published in 2013 and edited by Johnny Mains and Steve Upham. This anthology will showcase the very best writings of Crime, Horror, Science Fiction and Fantasy. 52 stories, one for each week of the year... This project is currently open to submissions and while we are mainly focused on new, original fiction – there will be three classic reprints from each genre. As the budget for the publishers will be rather taxing, payment will be £10 and a copy of the finished book. Stories will have to be no more than 3k in length. If you’re a horror writer but have always wanted to write a crime tale, give it a shot – if you’re a die-hard sci-fi scribe, why not jump into the land of orcs and magic talismans. What will NOT get in the book are mash-ups, emotive vampires and sadly there will be no room at the inn for zombies. TV and film related spin off stories will also be a no-go. The deadline is July 1st 2012 – this will give you enough time to think of a story, write it and send it in. You will be informed of whether you are in the book by Sept 1st 2012. No multiple submissions allowed and the date for all authors to sign off their individual stories will be February 1st 2013 with the book being published at the World Fantasy Convention in Brighton Oct 31st – Nov 3rd.

Taking Submissions: Specter Spectacular: Ghostly Tales

Deadline: July 7th, 2012 Payment: $5 advance against future royalties paid upon anthology publication followed by annual royalties (paid every December). Stories under 1,000 words will receive only the original $5 payment (no future royalties). Theme: New takes on the classic ghost story Submission period: May 7-July 7, 2012 World Weaver Press seeks new and previously published short fiction in the vein of the classic ghost story for themed anthology, SPECTER SPECTACULAR, to be published fall 2012 as ebook and print edition with online distribution. Spirits, hauntings, specters, boggarts, poltergeists — give us your best ghosts and spooky whatnots! Scary or funny, tragic or redemptive — we’re looking for the full spectrum. We’ll be looking for at least one funny piece to end the anthology. Anthology will be published fall 2012, but stories don’t need to be Halloween themed. We hope writers will draw inspiration from such classics as The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, A Christmas Carol, The Woman in Black, The Haunting of Hill House, Annabel Lee or others, but we are not (necessarily) looking for retellings of those tales. This is not an anthology for slashers, serial killers, zombies, vampires, or other undead creatures (their World Weaver Press anthology will come one day; this is not that day). Rights sought: For previously unpublished stories, first world rights in English and exclusive rights to publish in print and electronic format for six months after publication date after which publisher holds nonexclusive right to continue to publish. For reprints, non-exclusive world right to publish in print and electronic form; publisher requests reprinted stories not be resold to other markets for six months after the anthology publication date. Length: Fiction 1,000 – 10,000 words. This range is malleable but odds of us buying something outside the range is highly unlikely. Payment:...

Taking Submissions: Gothic Blue Book Volume 2

Deadline: July 13th, 2012 Payment: Exposure Only Burial Day Books Call for Submission: Gothic Blue Book VOL 2 Gothic Blue Books were short fictions popular in the 18th and 19th century. Gothic Blue Books were abridgements of full-length Gothic novels. In terms of the physicality of the book, they were three and a half to four inches in width and six to seven inches in height, with a page count of thirty-six to seventy-two pages in length. These little pieces of terror were popular at the time because they were affordable, a sixpence or a shilling each. Their cost affordability led them to be nicknamed Shilling Shockers or Sixpenny Shockers. What are we looking for? We are looking for a short story, about 3,500 words in length. If your story is longer but you feel it is fitting due feel free to submit for our review. We will also consider a poem.
