We invite authors to explore each theme in any way that speaks to them: re-write a familiar story from a new point of view, mash genres together, give us a personal essay about some aspect of our theme that has haunted you all your life. We also invite art that will accompany the literature and be featured on our cover. We realize that The King in Yellow is a bit more esoteric than our previous themes, so we've compiled a list of resources to help you! She is the ancient goddess of Night-hence the meaning of her name. She is considered to be one of the most powerful divine beings who was born of the giant cosmic being, Chaos. She is often depicted as a great black winged spirit or riding in a chariot, trailing stars and bringing the night. Submissions open December 1st 2014 and close April 30st 2015. We use that term in a general reference towards, horror, supernatural, paranormal, dark fantasy, and horror erotica. We are looking for authors who are looking to independently publish their novel outside the traditional publishing systems. In addition to novel and novella length fiction, we also seek short fiction for horror anthologies. Short Fiction Submissions Guidelines: Our normal open submission period for short fiction varies on anthology and dark art genre. “13” – We are looking for 13 horror stories, all some way loosely around using the number 13 in a significant way. How are things different, for better or worse? Show us what we have to look forward to in stunning detail. You can be as specific or as vague as you want about the details of the big event itself, although it should be a scientific possibility, whether environmental, political, etc. However, the main focus should be on what's next. To celebrate National Poetry Month, the Horror Writers Association will be holding their second annual HWA Horror Poetry Showcase in April 2015. Open to all poets, the Showcase will be accepting submissions in April with four poems chosen by HWA member judges to be honored on the HWA website. Submission Guidelines: Submissions will be accepted via Submittable from April 1-30, 2015 and all rights will remain with the poets. Do you remember that as well? What about the scary old caretaker who shouted at you on your first day of school… what exactly was it that he didn’t want you to see in the cleaning cupboard? PLAYROOMS is an anthology where all childhood fears become real. Submissions should feature spaces associated with young children (bedrooms, tree houses, schools, nurseries, etc.) and/or toys, items, objects associated with childhood. Stories should also contain elements of the fantastical or supernatural. Let your fears run rampant with this! Tales dealing with children suffering sexual assault in any manner are likely to be rejected.
