Do you take multiple submissions?

While your first submission during an open submissions period is free, if you’re interested in submitting additional stories during an open submission period, you can unlock two additional submissions at $5 each by making a contribution through Ko-Fi or PayPal. In the future, you will also be able to unlock them via Patreon. Please be sure the name matches what you used in your first submission so I can track this.

As a writer myself, I understand how cumbersome and worrisome submissions fees can be. That’s why I will strive to always review one submitted story per author during an open submissions period without charging a fee. However, Love Letters to Poe is a one-person operation at this time, and in the interest of keeping the workload manageable, I am only offering additional submissions to Ko-Fi or PayPal contributors and future Patrons. For those who participate, this is very much appreciated as it keeps the magazine going and I believe the extra perks I’ll be offering to Patrons will make it worth it to help support us!

Do you take simultaneous submissions?

Do you take reprints?

Not at this time.

Do you take stories set in an existing gothic world or universe?

Yes, as long as the work of fiction is within the public domain – which is quite a lot of gothic fiction! While I encourage creative play with gothic works in the public domain, please keep in mind that your story must still be original and serve as a complete, stand-alone work of fiction.

Do you take poetry submissions?

Not at this time.

When can I expect a response to a submission?

When you submit, Moksha will email you a link so you can check on the status of your submission at any time. As we are a fledgling magazine, I will refrain from noting an expected response time until our first open submissions period is under my belt. However, know that I will do my best to respond within four months. Please do not reach out to check on your submission before four months have passed.

I got a rejection with no feedback. How can I get personalized feedback?

Unfortunately, the volume of submissions will not allow for personalized feedback to be provided to everyone. If you wish to receive personalized feedback for your submission, I plan to offer critique options in the future on Patreon.

Please know that I understand how much a rejection can sting. Remember that it only means that the story wasn’t right for the magazine at this time and there can be a multitude of reasons it wasn’t a right fit. Don’t let it get you down and keep writing! The world needs your fiction, now, more than ever. 🙂

Can I resubmit a story that was previously rejected?

Please refrain from resubmitting a story that was previously rejected, even if the story has been revised.
