We are looking for submissions for Horrific History, a themed horror anthology, for POD paperback and eBook publication. We are looking for tales that show us the true horrific story behind historical events. Zombies in the Civil War, vampires in Renaissance Italy, shapeshifters in the ancient Far East, aliens, demons, and spirits throughout history.
If you want to get an idea what we are looking for, check out a couple of stories from our A Quick of Flesh zombie flash fiction anthology. Joseph A. Polega’s “Whitechapel”, and Rose Blackthorn’s “The Lost Colony” give us the real stories behind Jack the Ripper and the Lost Colony of Roanoke.
Word Count: 2,000 to 10,000 words. Also, one 20,000 to 40,000 word novella may be accepted.
Payment: share of 65% of the net profits of the eBook, share of 40% of the net profits of the POD paperback. If a novella is accepted, payment for this story will be 3 “shares”.
Rights: we purchase First Electronic and First Print Rights, with a 6 month exclusivity period. Please remember that you can only sell your various ”First” rights once, and that you will only be able to market your accepted story later as a reprint, once we have published it, which may limit where you can submit it to in the future, and how much you may be paid for it. Only you can make this business decision for yourself.
Deadline: December 31st, 2012.
Submit the full story to us at [email protected], with “Horrific History” in the subject line. Include a little information about yourself as well.
Multiple submissions: Ok
Simultaneous submissions: Ok, just let us know.
Reprints: We prefer original stories for this anthology, but might be open to a reprint, for the right story. If you’re submitting a reprint, please let us know when and where it previously appeared.
