Deadline: Submissions are accepted on a rolling-basis; First issue submissions are due by the 8th of May.

Language: English (We accept the translations as long as the original author is the submitter or has given permission for the submission).

Reprints: English-language reprints will not be accepted.

Formatting: All submissions must go through our form and must be formatted in a standard manuscript format, and submitted as a .docx file. 

Rights: We claim first world electronic rights (text and audio). All rights are restricted to the English language unless specifically stated otherwise.

Information:

1. We are open to contributors from all over the world.
2. We also welcome translation of non-English stories The translator and writer will have to agree on division of payment before submission.
   
3. We will be paying a rate of 5 cents a word, with a minimum payment of SGD 100 and a maximum of SGD 300.
   
4. We ask for first publishing rights and the right to host your work exclusively for 6 months for all accepted submissions. 
   
5. We encourage the submission of experimental works.

 

1. All submissions are non-exclusive meaning that you can submit your story to other publications while awaiting our response. If your story is accepted you must withdraw your other submissions of the same story.

2. We will get back to you within a month; if you do not receive a reply you can assume your submission has not been accepted ( we will endeavour to reply to all submissions but mistakes will happen).

3. Please make sure to submit via the form, any submissions sent via mail or another irregular method will be rejected.
4. All AI-aided submissions will be rejected and submitters will be banned from further submissions. (Enforcement will be an editorial responsibility, complaints or allegations regarding AI-aided submission will not be entertained). 

The Sengkang SF Quarterly is a Singapore-based zine dedicated to platforming bold speculative fiction and adjacent genre stories. The name and style harken back to the golden age of sci-fi where short fiction pioneered the art of creating narratives within imagined futures.  We want to return to the genre’s roots by supporting short stories that push the limits of human imagination using the frame of technology to entertain and examine. We have adopted a lax view of the genre definition, and encourage slipstream and other non-traditional works to be submitted. If you think your story is sci-fi then it’s probably sci-fi enough for us to consider. Think Ted Chiang, Jorge Luis Borges, and Begum Rokeya when considering the types of work we are interested in.

Stories to avoid

 

1. Fanfiction: Please don’t submit stories that are fanfics or reskinned fanfics.

2. Erotica: Stories that serve purely to titillate are not welcome.

One-dimensional Political Parables: Political stories are welcome, but are subject to higher standards. Stories focused on neglected issues are particularly welcome or saying something unique is particularly welcome.
