Taking Submissions: Snow-Capped Press Anthology

June 19, 2021

Deadline: June 19th, 2021
Payment: $10 for short fiction, $5 for poetry
Theme: Dark fiction, horror, sci-fi/horror, speculative horror, creature feature, suspense, thriller, weird horror, cosmic horror, and crime.
Note: Apologies for the short notice, just stumbled across this on Twitter. Originally for a magazine, this call was turned into an anthology release

Active: June 5-19
Expected Release: Fall or early Winter

Will be accepting up to 10-13 pieces, mostly short fiction but some poetry, as well.

Compensation: $10 for short fiction, $5 for poetry – USD sent via Paypal, Venmo, or Cash apps prior to publication / Accepted authors will be able to purchase physical copies of the anthology at print cost and shipping (usually a few dollars cheaper this way)

We’re looking for variations of dark fiction, horror, sci-fi/horror, speculative horror, creature feature, suspense, thriller, weird horror, cosmic horror, and crime.

We do not want: romance/erotica fiction or poetry … fanfiction … excessive amounts of sex … excessive blood/gore without substance to the story … descriptive sequences of rape … racist or homophobic content that serves no purpose to the story (and even if it does, we may determine it’s too much for this publication to be accepted) … religious pieces (nothing preachy or promoting an agenda)

Word Count (Short Fiction): 1500-7000 (some flexibility)

Word Count (Poetry): Under 1000 (firm)

Be aware #1: Content warnings will be placed in the back of the magazine that will note such things as “rape” or “child abuse.” If you refuse to allow us to include a content warning in the back pages of our magazine, your story will not be accepted. Please read this article if content warnings are foreign to you.

Be aware #2: We are supporters of the LGBTQIA+ community. We want stories from all, regardless of race, cultural background, sexual orientation, or identification.

Be aware #3: We most likely will not be able to provide a specific reason as to why your piece might be rejected, due to volume and time restraints. Just because you got rejected this issue doesn’t mean the same story will get rejected during our next call. Remember, we are accepting a small number of submissions each issue, so competition might be stiff. If you are rejected, please do not reply to the message, even if it’s to thank us. It clogs up the inbox.

Be aware #4: Accepted stories will receive general editing (spelling, formatting, grammar). If anything substantial is found, we will contact the author with our suggestion(s) requesting approval to proceed.

Multiple Submissions: Yes, we will read up to 2 per author

Simultaneous Submissions: Yes, but please inform us ASAP if you must withdraw your story or poem. If payment has already been rendered, then you’ve already signed the agreement and it is too late to back out – chances are we have already laid out the issue for printing at this point.

Reprints: None

Rights and Restrictions: If accepted, you will sign a form giving us permission to print/include your story in the anthology, including reprints. You retain all rights to your work.

Exclusivity Period: We are requesting at least 3 months exclusivity following the publication of this anthology.

Formatting: 12pt font size, Times New Roman, 1.5 line spacing, auto indent new paragraphs, “.doc” file type only … at the top of your document, include the story title, your name, and word count … name the document STORY TITLE – SCPM NO 0

To submit: Send your document to [email protected] before the end of day, June 19th. Use the subject line “STORY TITLE – Issue 0 Sub.” Include a bio of 100 words or less, the word out of your submission, and send up to 3 website links.

We aim to accept or deny your submission by the start of July. Please refer to social media for updates. If we receive a high volume of subs, we may have to extend the time frame.
