HINNOM MAGAZINE PAYS $55 FOR ACCEPTED STORIES OVER 3,000 WORDS AND $30 FOR STORIES UNDER 3,000 WORDS. Greetings from the Valley of Hinnom, With the amazing success of Hinnom Magazine during the year of 2017, we have decided to move onward with this publication and to make several big changes that will not only widen our reach to the darker side of literature, but will also benefit the authors. The issues will release bi-monthly, on the last day of every other month, starting in February 2018. We seek authors who have a unique voice, interesting writing styles, and unparalleled storytelling talents. We also encourage prospective authors to read one of our previous publications to get a feel of the atmosphere and themes we favor. We know a lot of publishers say this, but there is good reason for it. FICTION SUBMISSION DETAILS: Whereas last year’s issues of Hinnom Magazine were a bit more lenient, the 2018 volume is going to be much more specific in our themes since we have found our voice as a publication. Below, you will find the genres and subgenres that we adore. Again, if you read our previous releases, you will likely develop a solid understanding of what Hinnom Magazine represents in dark fiction. We are looking for stories that fit the themes of Weird Fiction and Cosmic Horror. Horror, Science Fiction, and Fantasy are all welcomed, as long as they fit in the realms of Weird and Cosmic. All stories must also be speculative in some way. What we mean by this is that we don’t want stories based in realism. While many great horror stories are plausible in modern reality, these stories are not for Hinnom Magazine. Thus, all horror MUST BE otherworldly or supernatural in some way. Science Fiction MUST BE dark and speculative....

Mind control, mind augmentation, multiple memories, mental powers, or any other idea where mental oddities are key to the story line. I prefer science fiction, but will consider any speculative fiction that is not too depressing, violent or graphic. Email submissions to [email protected] I prefer .doc or .rtf, but will accept .docx Standard double space formatting. Please include contact information (name, address, email, and phone) on both the email and in the header of the work. No simultaneous submissions. I am trying not to be to harsh about submission headers, but I do get them with no contact information at all. Because of the number of emails I receive, I often delete emails after I download the submissions. If there is no contact info on the actual story, you may never hear from me, whether I like the story or not. I will not be accepting reprints for this anthology. After the anthology is completed, I plan on accepting proposals for completed full length works, (100 to 200 or so pages/ approx. 30,000 to 60,000 words). While I specialize in Science Fiction and Fantasy, and these genres will generally get the fastest attention, I am open to any type of writing. Electronic version will be released two to three months after pint version. Via: Myriad Paradigm.

Taking Submissions: Zathom
Deadline: January 26th, 2018 Payment: $10 This time around, we are asking for a wide range of work to celebrate the addition of Poetry and Musings to our ever-evolving platform. Furthermore, unlike our last call, all work will be submitted using the digital canvas that is Zathom.com. You will write your submission(s) on Zathom, so the platform will choose which Fathoms you use. Our goal in this call is to welcome poets, literary nonfiction writers, and philosophers, as well as to introduce Continuations (a feature we are quite excited about). Continuations: If you have not played with Continuations on Zathom yet, this feature gives you the option to either continue your 55 word text yourself or allow other writers to continue it from where you left off. In order to begin a Continuation, click on any one of the three Fathoms in a published piece, and Zathom will give you one more Fathom. In addition to this new Fathom, you must use the original Fathom you clicked on in your Continuation (which presents an added challenge of having to reuse a word without it sounding redundant). Click here for an example of continuations Zathom Stories: For devotees of the muse, a Story is much more than a simple recounting of events. Story is the way we relate to and interpret our life experience, and also the way we both inhabit and escape from the world around us. Within Zathom, we categorize a piece as Story if it is fiction and clearly includes conflict and/or cause and effect. The best Stories will evoke the deepest emotional truths. Much like a picture tells a thousand words, a well-crafted Story (even at 55 words) can capture entire universes. Click here to submit Stories (with Continuations) Zathom Poetry: We see Poetry as an interplay of language, stringing words...

Taking Submissions: Garden Of Earthly Delights (Title TBD)
Deadline: January 31st, 2018 Payment: half cent a word with a $5.00 minimum We are seeking new and original work inspired by the famed Bosch triptych, “The Garden of Earthly Delights.” Pieces can be accounts of scenes occurring within the painting; further adventures of the denizens of the painting; bizarre odes to the painting itself; some conglomerate of the above; or something entirely different. Push limits of plot, structure, and form. Those familiar with our catalogue know we prefer the surreal, absurd, gut-wrenching. Pieces dependent on comedy will be less likely to find a home here. Please, for our sanity, do not send any pieces about the bird king eating and excreting humans out. We will consider fiction, poetry, plays, and pretty much any other formats you can think of. (Creative non-fiction is encouraged but pitch your concept beforehand.) Word count has a soft cap of 7K: if your submission is longer (or is expected to be), pitch us the concept beforehand. Payment is half cent a word with a $5.00 minimum. No simultaneous submissions, but multiple submissions are allowed. If multiple pieces are accepted, payment will be based on total word count of all pieces. Deadline is January 31st, 2018. We will try to be prompt with responses, but pieces that are potential acceptances may need to wait until after the deadline for final confirmation. We are seeking six month exclusivity from date of publication. Submissions can be sent to carrionblue555 gmail.com as .doc or .docx files. Include "GARDEN" and author name in the email title. Please format your file as you wish it to see print (italicize for italics, underline for underline, etc.) May your efforts bear strange fruits. Via: Carrion Blue 555.
Taking Submissions: MCSI: Magical Crime Scene Investigation
Deadline: January 31st, 2018 Payment: $25 plus one contributor’s copy. Reprints would be $10 and a contributor's copy. Note: Reprints allowed, but unlikely to be selected. Sometimes the tools that mundane detectives use to solve the crimes of the world just aren’t enough – sometimes you have to call on a little magic. We’re looking for urban fantasy stories that involve a crime scene and require the investigator to use magic or engage the aid of a magical being to solve the crime. Did the house’s hob see what really happened in the domestic violence incident? Does a detective come into possession of a genie’s lamp that will grant him one wish, and he uses it to solve the case that got away? Does your gumshoe use a tracking spell to find the perpetrator using a few strands of hair she found at the scene? The people in your world can use magic openly or on the sly, it’s all up to you. But your story must be urban fantasy, and involve a crime scene and magic in some way. What we don’t want to see: On page sexual assault, child abuse, or animal abuse – this is an immediate rejection. Your investigator may be trying to solve one of those crimes, but we will not accept a story with one of those crimes happening on the page. Gratuitous anything – violence, sex, profanity, doesn’t matter. If it is not integral to the story and it’s not advancing the plot or character development, we don’t want to see blood, gore, or sex just for shock value’s sake (this goes for language too). We are not opposed to violence, sex, or profanity – as long as it belongs in the story and it’s not just there to shock and titillate. Think...
