Timber Ghost Press is proud to present The Big Book of Things That Go Bump in the Night: A Collection of Utah Horror. With the help of the Utah Horror Writers*, Timber Ghost Press is excited to be publishing the ninth collection of Utah horror.

We are seeking well-crafted stories and poems suitable for a middle-grade audience. We’re looking for stories and poems in the same vein as Neil Gaiman, Victoria Schwab, Patrick Ness, Holly Black, and R.L. Stine. Please ensure your story/poem is suitable for a younger audience. If we deem the story too extreme for children, it will be rejected. For this anthology, all entries must have a Utah connection, either on the part of the author or the story itself (it is called Utah horror for a reason).

The stories will be evaluated in a blind read by three judges and must receive at least two ”yes” votes to be accepted. Therefore, when submitting, please ensure that there is no identifying information in the story itself.

We anticipate an April 2023 release. Accepted authors will receive payment according to the pay scale below, plus a contributor’s copy of the anthology in both print and electronic format.

Multiple or Simultaneous Submissions:
You may submit up to three poems and/or once in each category. For example, you may submit three poems, a piece of flash fiction, and a short story if you like. Regarding simultaneous submissions, we don’t mind as long as you let us know if your story gets accepted elsewhere.

Submission Format:
Please submit your manuscript in either .docx, .doc, or .rtf following Shunn format (with the exception of personal information inside the document itself as it is a blind read).

*Note: While the Utah Chapter of the Horror Writers Association assists with the anthologies each year, the UHWA and the HWA proper in no way officially sponsors these anthologies. These books are put together to help spread the love of horror to readers everywhere.
