Hidden Realms Short Stories

Open your mind to contemplate the ways in which places can be hidden – tucked away in remote corners of the world, buried underground, existing on another physical plane or a different dimension in time or on a quantum level, on another planet, accessible only to those with the secret knowledge, or even in plain sight under our noses… They may be inhabited by beings just like you and me, or creatures utterly different to us. Hidden Realms Short Stories will delve into the secret corridors, the hidden doors at the end of the alley, the hole in the trunk of an ancient oak. Your new submissions will sit alongside classic tales from many traditions, including classic literature (from Alice in Wonderland to Sir Gawain and the Green Knight) or even tales of the hidden city of Harar in Ethiopia, exploring the adventures of hidden places, secret gardens, and shadow lands in forests and mountains, in the swamps and wild places of our world, and beyond.

Taking Submissions: Tales from the Ruins: A Post-Apocalyptic Anthology

Deadline: July 31st, 2022
Payment: 20€ for original stories and 5€ for reprints
Theme: Tales of survival in a post-apocalyptic world.
Note: Reprints Welcome

We are currently OPEN to submissions for “Tales from the Ruins: A Post-Apocalyptic Anthology”. We’re looking for tales of survival in a post-apocalyptic world. There are no specific thematic guidelines and we’re open to submissions featuring sci-fi elements, but at the heart of your story must be a human struggle. Action and adventure is great, but more importantly, we want to feel for the protagonists. Make us walk in their tattered shoes and go through their struggles with them. Lean towards mystery rather than information overload. The nature of the apocalypse is secondary. The key is your story. Drop us straight in and leave hints so the reader can put the pieces of the puzzle together while the adventure progresses. 20 for original stories and 5€ for reprints regardless of length, plus one print copy. Preferred word count between 5,000 and 10,000 words. The preliminary deadline is the 31st of July, 2022.

Taking Submissions: Fear Forge Anthology – Winter Quarter 2022 Edition

Horrorsmith Editing

Deadline: August 1st, 2022
Payment: $30 and a contributor’s copy
Theme: Horror/dark fantasy stories or images involving a forge, such as: items created by a forge—haunted armor, weapons, or cursed objects; demonic crafters or smiths using the forge; or the forge equipment itself.

Theme

For the first edition of the Fear Forge Anthology, I wanted to give a nod to the anthology’s name and to the relationships that inspired it. Since the conception of Horrorsmith Editing, I have been focused on forging strong relationships within the author and horror communities. This anthology is a continuation of that, and I thought it only appropriate that it should reflect both in the name and the first edition’s theme.
