Cicada YA lit/comics mag is looking for poetry, fic, nonfic, satire, and comics on WITCHES. We're on the lookout for folk and fairy tale retellings, investigations of the witch in history, works on the everyday spellcraft of fashion, beauty, makeup, and the domestic (the hearth, the cauldron, the kitchen) as well as the spell cast by the arts. Also of interest: the witch in nature: the garden, the dark wood, the night. Taking Submissions: Tales of Unseen Terror and Slumbering Horrors

Twit Publishing is looking for submissions for our next anthology, “Twit Publishing Presents: Tales of Unseen Terror and Slumbering Horrors!” This collection will be based on Lovecraftian horror, which will not be based SOLELY on the Cthulhu mythos. The anthology will be based on the themes of Lovecraft for horror: anti-anthropocentrism, misanthropy in general, sanity’s fragility and vulnerability, preoccupation withviscerate texture, helplessness and hopelessness, and unanswered questions. Basically, anything that has the themes of Lovecraft’s works. Of course, all of the stories MUST be in the horror genre. The word count should be between 4000 and 9000 words. Taking Submissions: Winter Shivers

Deadline: September 18th, 2015 Payment: $30.00 Edited by Madeline Smoot Genre: Fantasy and Science Fiction for ages 13-18 featuring a main character of either a giant or an ogre Deadline: September 18, 2015 CBAY Books is pleased to announce an open submission period for the upcoming YA anthology Giants & Ogres, a collection of stories featuring these classics villains from fairy tales. Like in our previous anthology, Stepmothers & the Big Bad Wolf, we are looking for stories that show these villains in new and unusual ways. Retold fairy tales are welcome, but we are also looking for tales that feature these characters in new and interesting lights. We will be selecting 5 giant stories and 5 ogre stories. Short stories focusing on either one of the villains may be up to 5,000 words and will pay $30. All stories should be fantasy or science fiction (cross genre considered), appropriate for a 13 year old and interesting to an 18 year old. Our target for this collection is 25 stories with a targeted release date of December 1, 2015. What do we want? As with the previous two collections, the subject matter is open, just so long as it takes place on or around Christmas. HOWEVER, we would like to see FEWER Krampus/Santa stories this year. In fact, we will only be accepting three Krampus stories, so think outside the box. No sexual situations involving children or animals.
