Deadline: September 30, 2015 Payment: 3 cents per word. NOTE: ANOTHER DIMENSION HAS CLOSED EARLY Another Dimension Magazine is the evolution of Wily Writers Speculative Fiction Podcast. It has a more focused theme, that of classic-style Horror and Dark Fantasy, as seen on the television shows Night Gallery and The Twilight Zone, produced and often written by Rod Serling. We are doing blatant homage to these wonderful contributions to these genres. We'll release issues quarterly in both text and audio formats. What We're Looking For We've identified elements that we're looking for in the stories we'll buy: An interesting and well-thought-out lead character, first and foremost. Supernatural elements or alternate reality/history. The genres of either Horror or Dark Fantasy. The various subgenres of Horror are perfectly acceptable, such as SciFi Horror. A commentary on the world we live in (however metaphorically). Say something with your story. A surprising climax. Take us by surprise, if you can. Impressive imagination -- show us a different culture or an alternate world. Submission Requirements Submissions need to follow the guidelines listed below. Taking Submissions: State of Horror: Missouri

Deadline: October 1, 2015 Payment: Royalty Split and contributor copy Once again, Charon Coin Press and editor Jerry E. Benns hop on tour of the United States to bring the State of Horror Anthology to the next state, the Show-Me-State—Missouri. Missouri brings a deep well of potential with its history and folklore. As a river state, Missouri’s eclectic past has been told around the campfires as travelers shared different manifestations of tales discovered as they traversed the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers. As the launching point of the Lewis and Clark expedition, it was one of the first areas traveled while the United States was expanding into what we know today, and earned the moniker, “The Gateway to the West.” The many rivers are not the only sources of stories Missouri has to offer.  Beneath the surface of Missouri’s rolling hilly landscape lurks another world, one cut out of the soft stone, it lays claim to some of the most intricate, and unexplored cave systems in existence.  Used by the beer brewing families to house their beer before the time of refrigeration, they brought wealth and industry making cities like St. Louis into turn-of-the-century boom towns—until the collapse after prohibition. Some of the legacies these families left behind have become legend while others are a shade darker. The border cities are not the only source of stories from the Show-Me-State. From the northern plains to the rolling hills of the Ozark Mountains, Missouri’s background is steeped in a rich history full of expectation, conflict, opportunity, struggle and success. The cultures of Missouri are born from industry and grown in the vast farmlands. The rivers and mountains feed into the heart of the United States and are the reason Missouri is our next stop in our exploration in the State of Horror...

Taking Submissions: Untethered

Deadline: October 1, 2015 Payment: $100 and contributor's copy iPhones are magic. I mean, do you know how yours works? Could you take it apart and put it back together? We can’t go out without our smartphones. They organize our lives, find our locations, and sync with all our other tech. We sleep with them beside our pillows. Yet… their workings are a mystery. What does “magic iPhone” mean to you? Consider the supervillain who mind-controls a city’s populace, or the employee who stamps the runes that make your iPhone 8s so lightweight. This anthology is based on the success of anthology editor Janine A. Southard’s recent novel, Cracked! A Magic iPhone Story, which stars an explicitly magical iPhone (found by story gamers in modern-day Seattle). That iPhone comes pre-loaded with a romance finder app of dubious morality that not only sends its users on terrible dates, but also sucks their life forces. Editor’s Note: I’m looking for stories that cleverly incorporate the idea of a “magic iPhone” into any setting you like. I will, of course, be psyched to read variations on my crazy romance app, but I’m also excited to read something totally different. I’m accepting all genres except straight-up erotica or hard-core horror. (We’re aiming this anthology at general audiences, after all.) I think the idea lends itself well to comedy and dark fantasy, but… I guess that was obvious already. 😉   How to submit: Send your story in .doc, .docx, or .rtf format to Janine A. Southard [email protected].   Note about brands: In Cracked! A Magic iPhone Story the titular device was, clearly, an iPhone. Cantina Publishing acknowledges that not everyone rates an iPhone as their favorite device, but the concept of the magic iPhone is the element which will tie together stories in this...
