Synopsis: Prepare yourself for a chilling journey through the American frontier with Blood and Bullets, an anthology featuring three gripping novellas that blend horror, paranormal elements, and the harsh realities of the Old West.
The Wild West can be an endless well of inspiration. It was built on new beginnings and had more than its fair share of wild endings. Even though it didn’t happen all that long ago, there is still much to be discovered. This is where writers come in. What would it be like to be a bounty hunter with special “gifts”? What could’ve been the reason that Jack McCall killed Wild Bill Hickok? Why would people be disappearing from a small town in the middle of nowhere? Literally, there one second and not the next.
In the first story “American Devil” by James Aquilone, a psychic bounty hunter is after an escaped H.H. Holmes. Randall Bond’s psychic powers might give him a leg up on other bounty hunters under normal circumstances, but at a price. He must follow a growing trail of bodies to stop the monster from killing for good. But can he? The story is full of twists and gruesome turns as Randall tries to recapture Holmes without losing himself in the process.
Michael Knost’s “Deadwood Deal” puts a twist from down below on the betrayal and death of Wild Bill Hickok. Why did Jack McCall really kill Wild Bill? Who, or what, turned him against one of the most legendary gunslingers in the Wild West? Knost puts a creative spin on what really pushed Jack to betray Wild Bill in a desperate act of vengeance.
“Elijah’s Elixir” by Keith Lansdale finds a traveling medicine man and his partners revisiting a small town that has its residents disappearing with a loud POP! Never to be seen again. Residents find Elijah and his crew on the road and convince them to come back to solve the mystery. Little does Elijah realize his own deep connection to the mystery. Lansdale weaves a supernatural closed-room mystery that has the reader questioning everything.
This edition of Dark Tide includes three well written novellas, and not just for the Wild West reader. Saddle up and get ready to ride through a hail of blood and bullets.
