Taking Submissions: Out There!
Deadline: November 21st, 2024
Payment: €200
Theme: Stories that engage with new ways of being, and that embrace unapologetic weirdness
From Oct 17 to Nov 21*, we are reading short story submissions for our new collection, Out There! We are looking for stories of any genre that respond to our title and/or cover art.
Selected writers will receive a flat rate of €200
for accepted submissions.
“Go then,
there are other worlds
than these.”
Stephen King, The Gunslinger
From glowing eyes in the dark to the brief shimmer of starships, there are other realities on the brim of discovery for those daring to look! It may come in the form of visiting creatures, new inventions, pure magic or a deeply subjective perspective; but we know that other ways of existing are lurking out there.
For our ninth anthology, we want the stories that go beyond the boundaries of the known world; that dive deep into the imaginary, the mad, the uncanny or the simply unbelievable. We want to expand the limits of what is possible, and dive into the uncharted waters of experimental, speculative, or just plain weird.
OUT THERE is an anthology for stories that engage with new ways of being, and that embrace unapologetic weirdness. Between literary and experimental, sci-fi and speculative, that are no rules as to how you interpret the prompt; be as metaphorical or literal as you wish – as long as you promise to take us on an unforgettable journey.
We are looking for stories inspired by our title – Out There – and/or the cover artwork below, Cat Twins, by Andreea Dumuta. All genres of writing are welcome; more than any specific story or style, we want the emotional response the title and artwork evokes in you.
If you have previously submitted to our calls, we recommend sending us a piece of work we have yet to read! We want to see the whole spectrum of your creativity, so we’d love to see something new from you.
*The call will be open until Nov 21 or until we hit our 1,000 submission cap. We are currently at 3.6% (20/10).

“Tomorrow when the farm boys find this
freak of nature, they will wrap his body
in newspaper and carry him to the museum.
But tonight he is alive and in the north
field with his mother. It is a perfect
summer evening: the moon rising over
the orchard, the wind in the grass. And
as he stares into the sky, there are
twice as many stars as usual.”
