Taking Submissions: Deep In The Woods

Payment: Stories between 4,000 – 8,000 words will be considered for payment of $25.00 USD. Stories between 2,000 – 3,000 words will be considered for payment of $10.00 USD
Theme: Horror in the woods
Be it day or night, the forest hides its secrets from our eyes. Whether you find yourself alone or with others, its innocence can be deceiving, and its inhabitants deadly. What horrors await within the wooded land where nature reigns supreme?
Be creative! Your story can be supernatural, otherworldly, creature-horror, or down-right evil. Deep in the Woods hides a playground for your imagination!
Required theme:
All stories must take place in the woods/forest and must be horror or dark fiction.
Word count & Compensation:
Stories between 4,000 – 8,000 words will be considered for payment of $25.00 USD, an ebook contributor copy, and the right to purchase an unlimited number of print books at discount.
Stories between 2,000 – 3,000 words will be considered for payment of $10.00 USD, an ebook contributor copy, and the right to purchase an unlimited number of print books at discount.

Submissions MUS be sent to [email protected] with the following details included in the SUBJECT line of your email:

Reading & Evaluation Period:
Two to three months after close of the deadline.
The following will not be considered:
- ** NO REPRINTS WILL BE CONSIDERED **Multiple submissions will NOT be considered.
As per our publishing standards, stories containing pedophilia, or graphic rape scenarios will not be considered.
Sirens Call Publications is open to everyone: fledgling writers looking to cut their teeth, indie authors, and authors of note – if you have a tale to tell, and it fits an open call we’re running, we want to read it.
We are NOT accepting manuscripts for novels, novellas, or individual author collections at this time.
It is our policy at Sirens Call Publications to not publish material containing sexual content involving minors in any way, or stories containing overtly descriptive/graphic rape scenarios. Sexual content not relevant to the story is discouraged.
General Guidelines:
- All submissions MUST be emailed to [email protected]
- Be sure to specify what you are submitting for in the body of your email.
- Submissions should be sent as attachments along with your introductory email, not copied into the body of the message itself.
- Attachments should be in *.doc or *.docx format.
- Font style should be Times New Roman, 12 point with single spacing (no doubles spaces between sentences).
- Line spacing should be set to ‘single’ with no extraneous space above or below each line (please set both to 0).
- First line indent on new paragraphs should be 0.5″ (please use the tab key set to 0.5″ – do not use the space bar to create your indent).
- Margins should be 1″ top, bottom, left and right with no gutter.
- No headers or footers, please.
- Time or POV shifts should be denoted by a triple asterisk (***) centered on a single line with no indent (center from the left margin).
- Electronic submissions only. Please title your email in the subject line as follows:
SUBMISSION – [call you are submitting for] – ‘[your story title]’ – [your name]
Example: SUBMISSION – eZine50 – ‘Three Not Blind Mice’ – Lee Andrew Forman - Do not be offended if you do not receive an immediate response, we work as quickly and fairly as we can, and will address your submission as soon as possible.
- We are nice people, please be courteous when corresponding as we wish to engender an atmosphere of cooperative publishing, not heavy handed dominance.
Anthology Specific Guidelines:
- No previously published works will be considered for inclusion.
- No multiple submissions per individual anthology call.
- Please refer to the guidelines attributed to each individual anthology.
- Please submit stories that are relevant to the specific topic of each anthology.
- Payment for each story selected for an anthology can be found in its specific call details.
- Ask questions if you are not sure if your story meets the specified guidelines.
- All of the General Guidelines apply as well unless specifically stated otherwise.
