Taking Submissions: Creepy Corner Season 1

Payment: $20 per 1000-5000 word story, or $10 for stories under 1000 words
Theme: Creepy stories, preferabbly with Fall/Autumn and/or specific Halloween setting and themes and not overly-dialogue heavy
The Creepy Corner is a new podcast format from Straight to the Point Productions, releasing new and classic spooky stories in the lead up to Halloween.
We are seeking original short horror to record and release in an audiobook/podcast format.
Deadline – June 15, 2025
Note – stories may be accepted on a rolling basis, and Straight to the Point Productions reserves the right to close submissions early.
All authors will be notified within 1 month from the close of submissions.
Fees & Compensation –
Selected Authors will receive $20 per 1000-5000 word story, or $10 for stories under 1000 words. Submission is free and there is no limit on number of submissions per author. Authors will be credited aloud in the audio of the episode, as well as in the show notes.
Content Guidelines –
We are accepting stories on any and all themes (with some limits), but with preference for:
- PG-13 or below rating
- Fall/Autumn and/or specific Halloween setting and themes
- Reinterpretations of folklore or classic stories
- Not overly dialogue-heavy
To get a sense of the editorial team’s taste since this is our first edition, some writers we enjoy include Ray Bradbury, Karen Russell, Stephen King, Octavia Butler, China Mieville, Jeff Vandermeer, Shirley Jackson, Tananarive Due, Roald Dahl, Marisha Pessl, Silvia Moreno-Garcia, John Bellairs, and Daniel Handler.
We are also accepting submissions specifically related to Christmas and/or the winter holiday season for a special seasonal edition.
Submission Guidelines –
Please submit .pdf or .doc(x) files only. Other file formats will not be considered.
Please double-space manuscripts in size 12 font.
Restrictions –
- Maximum length of 5000 words (not including title)
- No minimum length – flash fiction will be considered
- We will not consider anything that might be classified as “extreme horror” (if you have to ask, err on the side of caution)
- We will not consider anything related to or derived from the work of HP Lovecraft
- Proper grammar and spelling will be considered in evaluation unless there is a specific, clearly established dialect choice.
- Previously published work will be considered as long as the author is still able to grant Straight to the Point Productions the requested rights (see below).
- Submissions must be wholly original, including no use of generative AI
- Author must have the ability to assign rights to The Creepy Corner / Straight to the Point Productions to record and distribute an audio edition of this story
- By submitting, the author acknowledges that their work meets these restrictions
Rights & Distribution –
Submitters grant Straight to the Point Productions the right to record and distribute an audio edition of this work on various podcast networks, social media platforms, and the websites for the company & project. All rights other than those listed will remain reserved by the author, including any/all subsequent publication. (Note that different print publications take different stances on whether releasing the story with us in audio-only format affects “first publication” status, and by submitting unpublished work the Author understands that this may mean they forfeit “first publication” rights).
