We are open for submissions effective December 1, 2024 and until January 15, 2025.

Please use the correct manuscript format. This generally means using a standard, twelve-point font where the first page has your name, address and email address in the upper left corner and the word count in the upper right corner. Consult the helpful Shunn format page for more information.

We can only consider Electronic submissions, via the form on this website.

Our submission form accepts stories in one of these formats: DOC, DOCX, RTF, or PDF. If you are unable to save your story in one of these formats, please send an inquiry to our editorial staff for guidance.

Our submission form asks for the title, for the approximate word count, for a short teaser for your story, and for your website, if you have one. It also asks for a brief cover letter. It’s not necessary for your cover letter to say much–or anything–about your story, which will speak for itself. This is, instead, a chance to provide any other information that you feel may help us in evaluating your submission. This might include, for example, workshops you’ve completed, your peer-review groups, academic degrees, or prior publications. This site has some examples and a discussion of cover letters.

Unless the call specifies otherwise, stories should generally be between 1000 and 2500 words. Longer or shorter stories are less likely to be accepted.

We publish stories in the English language only. Stories translated into English are certainly acceptable. We are open to all standard flavors of English, including Australian, UK, and US versions, among others. Whatever flavor you use, please follow best practices for that flavor with respect to spelling, punctuation, grammar, and related matters. Stories with excessive errors in these fundamentals are unlikely to be accepted.

For US English we use the Chicago Manual of Style for grammar, punctuation, and related matters. If you use a different version of English, our editorial staff may select an appropriate style guide or you may suggest one.

Out of consideration to our acquisitions team, please submit only one story per open call: no multiple submissions. We’d rather you didn’t do simultaneous submissions, but if you do, please notify us if your story is accepted elsewhere.

We will consider stories that make limited use of generative AI, but will ask that authors disclose the specific text where such use occurs. We may reject stories where we feel the author has exercised insufficient creative control over their submitted story.

We don’t have anything against stories that include extreme horror, fan fiction, erotica, graphic sex or violence, manga-type stories, or overtly political pieces, but we are unlikely to accept them. We will not accept stories that are degrading or demeaning to any person or persons.

We will read submissions within three months from the date submitted. You will receive an acceptance or rejection email within that time. Due do time constraints, we will not be able to answer queries about your story.

Due to the volume of submissions, we won’t be able to explain to you why a story won’t work for our anthology other than basic issues such as wrong manuscript format or grammar problems.

Payment will be the larger of $10 per story or 1 cent/word rounded to the nearest 100 words, up to a maximum of $25. Authors may elect instead to recieve a copy of the printed issue. Payment will be rendered via Paypal prior to publication. We cannot issue checks or pay in cash–you must be able to accept Paypal to be paid. If you cannot accept Paypal, payment will be in the form of a copy of the printed issue.

We are open for submissions effective December 1, 2024 and until January 15, 2025.

Use the form on this website to submit your stories.
